Nationwide Call Day on Monday-- HR2811

Nationwide call day for HR2811.
CALL DAY 7/27/09- Stop Ban On ALL Pythons Nationwide!

There seems to be some confusion in the Reptile Nation about what is going on here. HR2811 if passed would Ban ALL Pythons Nationwide. This is NOT a Florida bill. It is in the US House of Representatives. This is NOT about Burmese Pythons. IT IS ABOUT ALL PYTHONS!... from Ball Pythons on up... ALL PYTHONS!!! If HR2811 passes the House and Senate as written, the trade in ALL PYTHONS IS OVER!!

Our only chance is to get the bill amended. It is going to get voted on in subcommittee on Tuesday and the full House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. If we are unable to get it amended it will include ALL PYTHONS!

USARK is calling on the entire Reptile nation to turn out for a MASSIVE calling day tomorrow, Monday July 27, 2009!!! If we fail, the ability to work with ANY Python will be devastated. Don't let this happen. We owe it to our children and future generations to be able to enjoy these animals! This is the most fantastic hobby and profession there is. DO NOT LET IT DIE!

Phone & Fax Campaign July 27, 2009: This is not a full list of the House Judiciary Committee. We will focus only on key members.

SCRIPT: My name is...... I want to register a NO on HR2811. If passed as written this bill will destroy thousands of families and small businesses. There is not a shred of scientific evidence to support banning all of the different species in the genus python. Not all pythons are the same. There are many different species. Please amend the bill to address only the IMPORT of the Burmese Python. Thank you for your consideration.

THIS MUST BE BIG!!! SPREAD THE WORD FOR MONDAY July 27th 2009!!!!!!

Just spent an hour calling them all. I got some funny responces. One guy said... "man I had no idea we had so many python owners up here, it's so cold." LOL! I told him it was warm inside. HA! I had several tell me that almost every call all day so far was a no on this and that they were flooded with calls! VERY GOOD PEOPLE! Keep going!!

OH and you will need a zip code from their state or they blow you off...here is a list.

Texas 78201
CA 90006
VA 22482
NC 27530
AZ 85224
NY 12180
FL 33010
MI 28201

I just finished my calls!

It really did not take that long, especially after the first couple of calls. Then my "speech" became more automatic, and it was easy to remember what I wanted to say.

One good note is that the aide of Congressman Rooney (who is located near me - Punta Gorda, Fl), said he is introducing the amendment tomorrow that US ARK is asking for - ban only the import of only Burms, and allow the trade of c.b. Burms with whatever regulations they come up with, and leave the other python species out of the bill.

IT IS NOT DIFFICULT - DO IT NOW!

*bump*

Slippery slope, folks... if you think for a second that attacks on burms won't eventually lead to attacks on a species you care about keeping... you're deluded.

I just spoke to an aid there and he said Congressman Tom Rooney was working on a banned only for Burmese Imports now. So they are rewording the bill. But I am going to keep on on calling the other names.

but the first time i called the office, i got hung up on. lol I think they are getting frustrated.

Well I have done my calls and actually the best call was to my own congressman who isnt even on the Committee. It went very well and I thought I would call them as well for the fact maybe he could pull some strings where he is at. You never know. let all of Washington know of this bill and our feelings.

Hey Jerrold Nadler (last one) has fax number missing.
I looked it up ;)
202-225-6923

I faxed each and didn't call, but if you haven't done either yet, you should consider faxing even into the night! Let them be even more impressed (/deluged) when they come in in the morning.

I doubt they will be answering the phones, but you could always try. Sounds like the vote is 1 p.m. You could call first thing in the morning.

bad thing is I have to be at work by 9:45 so I leave by like 8am..and tomorrow I'm doing a double shift..which means I don't get off until 10:30pm...I could try and call on my break if I get my break before 1pm..do you think that might help?

Every call helps!

Thanks for posting this this morning, I printed it and took copies around and got other people calling. One of my friends got 40 people at work to call too. There's lots of feral dogs and cats in America eating up the native wild animals, and a lot more people are mauled to death by dogs than pythons, so if they can outlaw pythons, its a foundation for something more later. I'm opposed to feral non-native wildlife, but please don't make pets illegal. And just for the record, I don't have a python.

Great work! Wish everyone was as conscientious!

I don't know when the Congressmen / women will see their aides last before they vote. So a late call may or may not help. Just try to call as early as possible, and hope for the best.

I am sure US ARK will be posting the results tomorrow. If I see it elsewhere before I see it here, I will post it myself.

Like I said before, their fax numbers are still working through the night! You can still log your feelings that way.
