It could also be an Appalachicola king (L. meansi). Either way- what kind of king were you expecting? Either a Florida or an Appalachicola king will be an AWESOME snake!

I ordered a mex mex and this is what I ended up with, I don't mind my son is thrilled and loves this lil guy but I couldn't find anything on him, I wasn't home when he was dropped off and I emailed the lady that dropped him off but she hasn't emailed me back. But as long as my sons happy and loves the lil king, I'm happy.

Wow- that's a huge difference! The good thing about this snake is you're NEVER going to have a feeding problem. I would establish the baby as a container-feeder- you do NOT want to feed a Florida king in the viv. If he's a FK, expect a big adult snake. My Janine is about 1400 grams and still growing- twice the weight of a big cornsnake. She is very gentle, however, when not being fed. Never a tail rattle, defensive strike, nothing like that. An Appalachicola king will be somewhat smaller, but still much more stout than an adult corn. The temperament is similar. If you have any picky feeders, he will be happy to eat the leftovers! And my FK is always eager to eat infertile snake eggs, too.

I _would_ expect the orange to fade to a golden yellow, and actually the whole snake should become more gold.

Thank you Nanci, I so appreciate this info so much. I was going to feed him on Wednesday but good to know to feed him in a different container. Should I keep the temps the same as the corns?

Yes- treat him as you would a corn. Except I guess I would keep him on a 7-10 day feeding schedule as a young adult (five days, now) because they are just such eager feeders. And I would recommend getting him out and into his container before thawing the mice.
