Well, I just experienced my first hit and run...

Some bastard hit me between Monday and today and squished my bumper. My '02 ZX2 that I don't even have payed off! Bastards. My damn insurance company is trying to make me pay a $500 deductable for a $900 fix that WAN'T MY FAULT. I don't have the money. I don't know what I'm expected to do. They told me I need to file a police report. What's the point of paying $142 a month in insurance if they're not going to fix the damn thing without digging in my pocket???

Sorry, I'm just REALLY pissed right now. Anyone have any idea what I'm supposed to do???

Oi!! Yea...

someone hit my car and totalled it while it was park in the street where I live...a hit and run. Very upsetting!!! I had to drive around for two weeks in a rental car (a kia rio of all things, bleeeeh) and finally I got a new car last Saturday, but it sucks because my old car was paid off, now I have monthly payments and my insurance went up :( The good news is...I got a Beetle :)

Your insurance went up because someone hit your car?? That is BS!

I had just got rear ended about a month ago and just fixed the car...and now someone squished the new bumper and I'm to pay for it?! I'm telling them I'm dropping them as my Auto Insurance if they expect me to pay for something I didn't do!

I'm not sure there is anything you can do about it~ they've got you in a corner. I hope I'm wrong.

Last summer I got up one morning to find my car had been vandalized. Not broken into~ there is nothing worth taking in the car~ just the driver side window smashed. I had to pay $200 to fix the window(my deductable on my insurance was $500 so they wouldn't touch it) I made a police report~ AND the police had arrested a nasty little hoodlum who lived around the corner for breaking the windows in cars in our neighborhood that night~

BUT

No one actually SAW the hoodlum bust MY window. Apparently his grandparents only had to pay for the window he was CAUGHT breaking.

I also pay $45 a month HOA fees~ they wouldn't pay for my car window either~ they just shared with me that the hoodlum had been caught (cops didn't tell me that) and that a house and 8 OTHER cars had been vandalized that night~ and they didn't even hold him all night long.

Basically~ it came down to everyone pay becuase no one can PROVE the nasty little wannabe gangbanger did ALL the crimes committed that night~

Steamy mad over this all over again!

I guess I'm screwed then. I can't afford to pay $500 for damages I didn't cause. I guess I'll have to pull some duck tape out and hope like hell someone rear ends me again and doesn't run off. BASTARDS...

I don't know whether this would help in your situation but I had someone hit and run my car when I was in the grocery store this summer that messed up my bumper and one of my side panels. And it turned out that they didn't make the same exact kind of bumper that I had on my car anymore and the damage wasn't that bad, so I decided to keep the bad bumper and just let the auto shop fix the panel. And basically, the insurance company had to pay the auto shop for the bumper, which they didn't buy, so the auto shop transfered the check to me. And after taking out the deductible, I actually made some money :dgrin:

So, like I said, I don't know whether it could apply in your case but just in case...

I had a hit and run last winter on my truck, and i had it less than 2 months, man was i pissed, i didn't bother going to the police or the insurence i ended up just fixing it myself

my insurance will...

go up b/c i'm 25 and got a brand new car, but i was lucky that it got totalled even though i had a week long panic attack b/c i lack an appropriate coping mechanism for incidental sh*t like this. my old car was pretty busted up to begin with. the tires kept popping, haha...the allignment was off...the ac didnt' work...the break lights were out...spiders infested it...the trunk was filled with water...it smelled...it was ugly...and it was cursed!!! a year ago it caught on fire and my insurance company had it repaired...which was just ridiculous and the dude at the body shop couldn't find the right interior so he put leather on the seats...ummm....i had a toyota tercel, an old crapped out tercel with leather seats...it was VERY ghetto ridiculous...blech!

i almost got hit on the way to work today. some dumbie turned into the right bloody lane as i was reaching the stop...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....i honked and i flipped the finger, something i've been doing a lot lately :-/ gotta work on that.

My garage is pretty sweet. I'm sure Fred would do that for me. I'll have to take a pic of the damage. I'm not even sure if someone hit it with a car, or some sort of blunt object...Either way, it looks awful.

Last July a suicidal moose stood out on the highway and I drove right into her big butt. Needless to say, my neon was totalled. At first I thought it was going to suck, cos I had to drive a rental for 3 weeks and file reports....turns out I got a new car (a better one with good payments), and $3000 in my pocket for all the crap I drive around with.
Unfortunately the whole hit and run thing makes it harder to deal with. :headbang: Why not check out a few body shops and see if you can find one cheaper. Screw the insurance company.

Here's the photos. When I got rear ended (and she had totalled it) in my 2001, she hit me in the center and the whole thing pushed in. The other time I got rear ended in this one, she'd scuffed it up and made a slight crack. This just looks odd to me.

Due to my last bumper replacement...I know how much it costs...and where I got it fixed, I'm friends with the garage. I got as low as you can go on the price. The bumper alone costs around $300.

moose...wow!!!

i hit a dear two months after i got my license and my first car when i was seventeen. i remember thinking it was a human being at first b/c when i was 11 my best friend was hit by a car on the same road. the cop had to shoot the deer b/c it was suffering so badly :(

Really sorry for you blckkat. I have being hit once and the guy would not give me his name, I had to call the police. He claimed it was nothing (I think he was not insure). Finally the police get his name but I didn't do anything because it was minor and the deductible was more then the cost of the reparation.

2 month after that, we hit a big dog (it cross a big boulevard because it was running after a cat I think). My bumper was crushed so I make it repair (since it was with a dog (not with another car), my deductible was only 100$). 1 year after that, I received a check of 100$ because the company had pursuit the guy who had the dog and they found that it was his fault. So I get my money back.

The dog seems ok when we leave them (it was a really big dog) but I hope it was ok (never heard of them after that).

Good luck!

P.S. I was working one night and bums crashed our 2 mirrors!!! We had to buy 2 new ones because of the deductable (1 hint though: we find really good mirrors on ebay (69$ for 2 NEW one compare to 90$ for only one USED mirror here!!!) Maybe you could check there.
