New agressive behavior...what gives???

Lucy is a year and half old, she's always been super mellow. But recently she's gotten really agressive. She rattles her tail at anybody who comes near her viv and even struck at a friend of mine who went to pick her up. She's NEVER done that before.

Her temps are normal, she's been feeding just fine. She doesn't need to shed (just shed a few weeks ago). Whats the deal??? OH and I handle her just as often as I used to...1 maybe 2 times a week. Is that not enough?

Can you think of anything new in her environment that could be setting her off? Is there a new pet in the house, or some other new scent? The mellowest snake can have a bad day, but it sounds like your snake's attitude change is more persistent. Make sure she has cozy hides across the temp gradient. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. :)

Is Lucy a big girl for 1 1/2 years old? If so, it may be a hormonal reaction as she may be thinking it's time to lay eggs. She may have produced a few eggs, even at a young age, and may be ready to lay them (if she doesn't reabsorb them).

And don't disregard another shed. I've had snakes shed only a couple of weeks after a previous one.

She doesn't LOOK like she's in the blue, her colors are still very bright.

However the nesting thing I wondered about, she's spent alot of time muscling around the hide on the cool end of her tank and burrowing under her bedding. And yeah she's a pretty big girl for 1.5 years old. She's right around 3 ft and about 2in in diameter.
