New Arrival: 2007 Cinder Male

Meet Zeke, an '07 cinder male acquired in yet another great transaction with Carol H. of Lowbelly Reptiles. She produced him. Cute little bugger, ain't he? I'm glad she warned me of his speed; he's a little maniac. :)

After seeing these for myself in person, I am not impressed with babies at all. They are ugly as sin!

But you simply cannot deny the beauty of those shiney eyes and mahogany background colour as they mature. They are just so un corn like. I like them a lot.

I am assuming hes for Zara, but then I also assume you have much bigger fish to fry ;)

Hah! Yeah, they're sort of unimpressive as hatchlings. It's funny, a lot of morphs that I don't really like as hatchlings turn out to be awesome, and vice versa. I love older cinders, bloods, and caramel-combos, but the hatchlings are so-so. And I love hatchling anerys and snows, while the adults don't do much for me. :shrugs:

Carol gets some great eye-shots of cinders, but mine are never as good. They definitley have some of the coolest eyes of any corns. :)

You had this one fabulous shot of zara and her big "green" eyes outdoors. She has to be one of the prettiest cinders around.

You are ded right about snows and anerys etc btw. 100% agree.

I think he's adorable! I like the name Zeke- when I was a kid, the next door neighbor up at the lake cabin was named Zeke.

Nice pickup, Dean!

I like the name Zeke as well, but it always reminds me of the favorite "dog name" of Gary Larson......whose work I miss dearly.

Dean.....WOW!!!! Nice pick up. Can't go wrong with one of those. Still don't have a homozygous one in my collection....I'll have to change that someday.

Dean, I only have 3 words for you...I hate you.

Not really...well, maybe just a little. Envy will do that. He's spectacular! He and Zara should make beautiful babies for you!

Thanks Nanci, Katie, and Dale. :)

Thanks Jeff. :) I'm hoping to produce a few with my Keys het pair next year. This guy and my '06 female should be ready in '09.

I understand. :) I HOPE they make some nice babies...

I'm still torn on these... and am leaning more towards the Amel version over the rest, but then again I've only seen pics, and none in person... What draws me in is the irregular saddles, so I wonder what a Motley would look like... How long does it take before they color up? Do they show more color in person as hatchlings? or are the pics pretty accurate?

Well, Carol and Rich Z. have seen a lot more of these than I have, and I've never seen an adult in person. I don't even know if you can say that they "color up". They may lighten a little, but the biggest effect seems to be that they're pattern fades out allowing ground color to leak in. My '06 was a little lighter than this new one as a hatchling. Below are photos of her at the same weight as the new one, and a semi-current photo of her. From the photos I've seen of adults, they seem too highly variable to make general predictions about them (especially in terms of coloration). :shrugs:

Serpenco.com probably has more info on these guys than any other source:

Wow! It has been a while since I have seen anything about Gary Larson. I miss him and The Far Side :(

He has arrived at last ... Congrats!!

I like his name and ... do look forward to seeing him progress (and, eventually, seeing him as an adult).:)

Thanks Rich. :)

Yep. He was supposed to come last week, but this week turned out better for both Carol and me.

I'm glad you like his name. All my cinders and hets get "Z" names. I always preferred "Z-morph" or "Morph-Z" for the gene's name, but as Austin Powers would say, that train has sailed. But I can still give them "Z" names. :) And I'm sure you won't have to wait too long for photo updates. ;)

Lol, I think I am doing the same thing. I probably got the idea from you. I have "Zephyr" the male het from serpenco; and 'Zeppelin' and 'Zelda' my pair from Carol (which is only 66% poss het but they're getting the z names anyway.)
'I hate you' about sums it up (but I will forgive you if you post lots of pics of Zeke!)

My female Keys het cinder is named "Zelda". :) The male is named "Zod". I almost named the new guy "Zeppelin". ;)
