New Brooks King

TheFrogman

Im just old
So I got myself a new Brooks King Snake (No Name Yet) at Repticon today, the show was awesome. I wasn't looking for a Brooks but that's what I came home with, people that know me would say, "yep, that's Gary."
She's a female about 1 1/2 years old. I measured her and Shes approximately 42-44 inches.

I've read and heard a good deal of horror stories about Brooks already, I hear they are biters. I've handled her 3 times today and so far I'm bite free, I'm told that will change.

Are they as bad as I hear? Also, Nanci asked If she's a Normal?
I don't know, can you guys tell from these pictures?

Yes she's a normal. I never found them to be biters, except the time Big Jake bit me- there's a thread somewhere. Sure, if you get in between a FK and food, they will be in a feeding frenzy, but I would never call them biters. She's beautiful.

Mine's just a baby, and she is a sweetie and officially wins the "cutest baby snake on the world" contest that no one knew we were having until right now. And she won. I couldn't tell you if yours is a Normal or not. Mine's whitesided. I accidentally won her on an auction.
As for staying bite free, couldn't tell you. Every snake I have ever gotten from John (sorry John!) is an absolute sweety when I first handle them and meet them, then after about two weeks turn into poop slinging, musking, biting devils. Even have one that has learned to whip his tail like a monitor lizard. OUCH.

Thanks ladies, I love her, I really do, a little cautious because of the horror stories I read but. Let me ask this, she was labeled as " Breeder Female" Does the word Breeder mean anything in any context other than was the Breeders? ?

Lovely! I have found Brooks to be great snakes. I did get bit by one but it was feeding and he missed the mouse as I was putting it in the tank.

Here we go, I took Domino out tonight, I washed my hands and I even changed my shirt so she could not smell my other animals.............oh she's a biter !!!! Doesn't hurt, she didn't even break my skin, she released on her own but 5 or 6 bite, hell she even tried to bite herself twice. But she didn't bite me right away.

Anyway, It started good, she was happy and just seemed content as I held her, then she started constricting around me so tight, tighter and tighter that I literally couldn't get her off. When I would try to unwrap her from my hand she just constricted tighter and tighter, and tried to bite me. I placed my hand in her enclosure with her around my hand thinking she would go off all by herself into a hide, NO ! She bit me. Again, I felt her teeth, didn't hurt but I really wanted to get her off and get this, he started squeaking like a mouse !!!!!

I finally got her off, an hour later but now she is very, very pissed off, she's going back and forth in her enclosure like a Tiger in a cage.

Shes in her enclosure biting herself, some told me that shes just hungry.

Thoughts, digs, laughs, comments ???

LOL, that's what im told..im feeding her again tonight

Eating Machines they are!!! An Animal such as yours....with proper temps and hiding spots....can easily handle 2 ADULT Mice.

My male & female pair....Both get 2 Adult Mice per week. 3 days later....they WANT food! :)

But PLEASE...do not take my word for it.

Bob Applegate has a great Kingsnake Book....you can get for the Iphone-Ipad etc.

Well, I got a chuckle out of it; then again, I'm not the one getting chewed on. haha. She's certainly a looker. I hope she calms down for you buddy. Props to you for taking on a snake that you figured would be a challenge.

It doesn't need to be your last post on this topic, I appreciate your knowledge and insight greatly.

I fed her last night again, 2 mice in two days and it was quit an aggressive feed, almost a feeding frenzy, she shred the mouse before eating it.

You also forgot to take pics for Bite Club...

I tried to take pictures but It was tough doing it myself and using my opposing hand. She never drew blood but I do have a picture of her trying to get her mouth around me at one point, Ill look to where it needs to go and post it up.

I would not be comfortable with a snake eating that amount of aspen. Plus, how can you ever clean that?

I was not either, and I still am not happy but I could not do anything about it. I cleaned the enclosure while she was sleeping, I may have to try and feed her next time in a tub.

Her first feeding was not that aggressive at all !!!!!

Nanci, she is a very aggressive eater as many told me they are.
