• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

New chat room test site I set up

OK...

I'm going to check mine again with this post. I hope it's right now:D

Just checked and it is right now. Thanks!

Er, thanks Rich, although I think your reply to me should have been addressed to Hope H. ;) I guess I'll go change my time zone to Eastern Standard now.

When I used the forum, twice my browser locked up so badly I had to do a hard reboot. Sigh. I guess I won't be using it much till I work out the kinks in my system.

All Hail The Webmaster !!

I'm now posting at my correct time, EST. Thanks Rich !

OK, well I had a talk with the people whom developed that Chat software I am evaluating. I needed more than the plain vanilla version to do what I needed, but spending $700 for it was just a rather big pill to be swallowing. So after grovelling sufficiently, they offered it to me at half price and I jumped on it! So in the next couple of days they should be getting the file to me to enable all of the functions of the full version.

When this happens, I will be doing a number of things with it:

  • Setting up individual chat rooms to coincide with the discussion forums on FaunaClassifieds (which will include a Corn Snake room).
  • Linking the logon script to the FaunaClassifieds user database.
  • Setting up the admin functions.
  • Incorporating banners into the pages.
  • Working on links directly from within FaunaClassifieds from each of the forums to it's own chat room.

As you may surmise from this, FaunaClassifieds is really becoming my flagship site. Unfortunately, there is no way to link the logon to the Chat rooms to two different message board databases so I could combine both FaunaClassifieds, and CornSnakes.com's forums together.

Right now, I am not sure whether someone from the outside will be able to log in without being a member of FaunaClassifieds, but I hope to have that figured out once I have it to work with. But in the meantime, anyone here NOT registered there may want to think about doing so.

One thing I am intending to do is to go through the user database on FaunaClassifieds and weed out ALL users that have not been to the site since the conversion over to vBulletin back in November. This will open up a whole bunch of user names that are now locked up by people whom apparently are not planning on coming back to the site. So their names will get recycled. This is obviously going to leave some gaps in messages posted on the BOI, because all of the names of the people that get deleted will be set to 'unregistered'. But that can't be helped. If I can figure out a way to filter the users to keeping anyone whom has posted on the BOI, I will do so, but I doubt I'll be able to do that. Anyway, I am letting you all know HERE first, so you will be able to check on those released names before anyone else can grab them up.

I will be putting a link button on this site for the CornSnake room of the Chat board, once it is set up, so it will be real easy to get to.

Anyway, I hope the chat board proves to be useful and fun to everyone here. I've been on there when I can, and it is rather interesting to be able to send message back and forth in real time like that. But when a LOT of people are on there, it can get real confusing trying to keep a running conversation without appearing to be ignoring someone.

Anyway, thanks for your help in evaluating the software.

Do you think, in the future (say, several months down the road) that you will again delete users who have not posted for a very long time? For example, if I register with FaunaClassifieds just to be able to use the chat rooms, and then never post there, will I risk being deleted after six months or a year?

Just curious. :)

Kate,

I certainly can't promise it, but probably I won't go through a deletion wave again anytime soon. I just think I lost a bunch of people when I went to the vBulletin message board, so this cleanup is just due. Many of those probably signed up with bogus email addresses anyway since when I went to the new system, a valid email address became a requirement.

I have already weeded out 900 user names that have never logged onto the system since the move in November and have never posted any messages at all even before that time.

There are still quite a few names that I need to go through, but I don't want to delete anyone whom has posted on the BOI. I would like to keep anything they have posted there having their name attached to it.
