New Corn

Hey everyone, just got my first Corn! Yay! I've had him for about close to two weeks now and I'm loving his company. I got this little guy from PetCo, even though some may dislike the place.

He's recently just entered his first shed, to which I'm excited to get through. :D
Looking around, I've seen that misting the snakes as they are starting to shed helps the process along. So I decided to spray the little guy with my misting bottle which used to be for Gibberellic Acid (was completely washed). I ended up scaring him half to death, I felt so bad afterwards. Is there another way to go about making sure he's hydrated without scaring him? What's a good humidity for the tank when they're entering the shed?

Also, a question on feeding. I have fed him twice a week, with pinkies, but I fear that these may not be enough as it hardly even leaves a bump. should I up him? if so, to what and how often?

As of right now, his tank is very basic. It's a 10g, 20x10x12". I'm using Aspen bedding and have an UTH, Ceramic heater and light for it. A small box in place for the new hide that I'm going to get him real soon. I've managed to raise the humidity to about a constant ~30%. Is this good, should it be more? Less? If more, how would you suggest I go about it? I have plastic over the top already.

I think I've covered the basics as of this point. So unless there's something I've forgotten, on to the pictures!

Don't mind the mess, only temporary. :p

Hey Keitaro,

First, get a T-stat or a rheostat for the UTH and buy a cheap digital thermometer with probes so you can set the rheostat or know the true belly temp inside the tank.

Second, ditch the ceramic heater and light. All you are going is drying out his tank. A good humidity in the tank is 50% plus or minus 10%.

As far as feeding goes, look up the Munson Plan and your snake will do fine on it.

As far as keeping the snake hydrated goes, keep clean fresh water at all times in the tank.

Love the Fatman

Thanks for the advise. I've seen the munson plan, but I do not own a scale, so I do not know how much my snake weighs.

Well there's your problem.

I decided that I would let my little guy roam around the room a little to explore the world. I just so happened to have a MeanWell PSU lying around (weird aint I?), and let her search inside. With the cover off of course. The followingpictures were then taken. :D

Just went and bought a bigger UTH, as my other one was too small, and dimmer. I can tell you that she's already taken a liking to it. I'm currently trying to keep it around it around 85-90F. It's going to take a while to get it right, but in the mean time, it seems Pinky surely is enjoying the new heat pad plus moss. I've also rid myself of the heat lamps, greatly increasing the humidity! It's currently at ~60%.

Also, she's going through her first shed, I can't wait until it's over so that I can handle her and all that fun stuff. :D

She just completed her first shed and everything went perfect. I decided to snap a few pictures of her beautiful new self.

Ignore my fat hand. :p

Lookin' pretty good! :)

Wait, you'll see his colors change and become brighter!

Mine looked like yours minus the orange and a little bit lighter with red....now, WOW so much orange, red, & a little bit of yellow! Oh, and less white too!

Yeah, the orange glow that's between the red has really started to show up. The outlines of the red sections also seem to have a transparent look to them as well, which is pretty neat. I'm just hoping that the orange glow stays and doesn't completely change to full orange.

Hey everyone, long time no update!

It's been ~7 months and Pinky is doing great! as active as ever and though she may not like me taking her out of her viv at first, she loves exploring. In the past seven months she went through a phase (about a week or so long) where she was quite angry and even attempted to strike at me through the viv. Shortly after my surprise and the sudden contact of glass to her face, she retreated to her hide, I didn't bother her until it was time to feed. Three days later she was calm enough to handle again and haven't had an incident since.

Enough of the talk, here's some pictures!
