New Hatchling Problem

We just looked at one of our hatchlings that just crawled out of his egg and we believe he isn't doing too well. The first section of his body is extremely skinny but his mid section is rather plump and near his tail there is a red bump of some sort coming out of him that the end of his tail is wrapped around, possibly his intestines? I'm sorry I don't have a camera available to take a picture...he just doesn't look like the rest. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

This sounds like it could be the yolk sac. They are supposed to absorb it while still in the egg but sometimes they come out too early for whatever reason. It's usually attached to their midsection with an umbilicus.
I would put him in a deli cup with a damp paper towel and no substrate that could stick to it and see if he absorbs it in the next couple of days- without a pic it's hard to tell if it's that or a deformity though. Good luck!

after checking in on him a few minutes ago, he tail has straightened out and the "red bump" that his tail was wrapped around is gone but he is still rather thick in the midsection down to his tail and very skinny in the neck area...we did separate him in his own deli cup and I just sprayed down his paper towel...we'll se what he looks like in the morning. Thanks

That may just be how the snake is put together. When I first got my corn, he looked very skinny in the neck but fattened up towards his mid-section. Give him a little while before you make any life or death decisions.

I've heard fresh from the egg, having absorbed the yolk sack, they can look like they just had a meal; that may be what you're seeing.
