Hello all, my name is Jana and my son just recently became a cornsnake owner. He is 10 and this has fulfilled a dream he has had for quite a long time. He adopted a 5ft albino and has named her October. She's actually rather beautiful and is incredibly docile. It seems like she enjoys being held. She doesn't try to get away and will just slowly slither around my son, usually attempting to go into his shirt sleeves or collar.

We have her in a 30 gal tank with aspen bedding, a tunnel, heat lamp and water bowl large enough for her to lay in. She eats small frozen rats every 6-8 weeks.

I joined this forum as a way of educating both myself and my son regarding snake care before we ventured off and picked up October and I believe this will be a very good source of information for us in the future. In fact, I think I will mosey on over to the handling section and start asking away (=

Welcome I'm all ways glad when I here about kids getting into snakes. Good luck with yours. Ask anything the people here have helped me a lot. But we alll love pictures.

Welcome Jana (and son)!

This is a great place to learn. One thing you might want to learn about is an Under Tank Heater (UTH). There are oodles of threads on those. Doing a simple or advanced search will lead you to them.

Happy snaking!

Thanks for the welcome (= Yes, I am definitely going to pick up one of those heaters. We're using what came with the snake right now and are slowly adding our own preferences to her set up . Thanks for the advice!

Sorry, I must edit the time between feedings....I meant to write she eats every 2weeks!

LOL. Glad I read the whole thread as I was gonna mention that 6-8 weeks is pretty LONG between feedings! :)

Welcome aboard and I envy your son for being able to fulfill his dream at such a young age. I was in my mid-30's before I could fulfill mine. :)

Make sure you and your son post pics of his beauty!!!
