New Pair--Blue Beauties!!

So...a guy comes into the shop I work at regularly, and we talk snakes. He has a growing collection of colubrids, pythons, and beaded lizards. He wants to focus his attentions on beaded lizards and carpet python varieties. And he says, "I got a proven pair of Vietnamese Blue Beauties, free to a good home. You interested?" Why, YES I AM!!

So here are VanGoh and Nightshade, my new pair of adult Vietnamese Blue Beauties:

This is the male, VanGoh. He is a feisty, feisty bastard. He actually struck his water dish while I was trying to put him in the cage. He is always in a strike position, just waiting for me to make a wrong move. He's cool!

This is the female, Nightshade. She is a bit smaller and MUCH, MUCH calmer...but she still likes to hiss a bit.

These two have been co-habbed almost since birth. I'm hoping that regular handling, and seperating them, will help to calm them down, at least a little bit. If not...Oh Well!! They are AWESOME!!!

wow, SCORE is right! yes, hopefully they calm down a bit for you, because those are TRUE beauties!!

also, i see a cockatiel in the backround! i just love those birdies!
 
I am going to have to quit this site. All of these beautiful snakes are just too much for me....Those are absolutely gorgeous! And the little cutie in the background looks totally non-plussed about them. "Oh yeah, daddy has some more snakes. *yawn*" ;)
 
Thanks, everyone! When the guy mentioned them to me...he didn't seem like he was sure about giving them up. He said he would bring them in for me to look at. He showed up this morning and said, "Here you go!" I'm pretty stoked on them.

And yes...that is my yearling male cockatiel in the background, and he talks and whistles more than any cockatiel I've ever seen.

And Yes...my daughter is fairly non-plussed about getting new snakes, unless they are small and gentle enough for her to handle. These two are neither. The male is easily pushing 6 1/2 feet, and he is just a bitey, bitey boy. But I don't mind. He's worth it!!
 
Wow! I don't really understand the free part. Those are some beautimous beauties! I often don't love those snakes, but these two are pretty! I love their size, too. :cheers:

The guy who gave them to me is simply getting out of colubrids, and focusing on other projects. He knows I am a HUGE colubrid fan, I have enough brooksi kings to be unphased by bitey colubrids, and he KNOWS they will be very well cared for at my house, so...he gave them to me to make room for more pythons. He's had them for about a year, and simply wanted to focus his attention elsewhere...

I'm normally not very excited by free snakes...they typically come with a hidden price tag. But this year I have been given 1.3 Prairie kings, and this pair of Blue Beauties, and all 5 have been from reputable breeders, and in fantastic health. It's good to be starting out when other local breeders are finding themselves with too many snakes...:D
 
Blue Beauties at a local reptile show was what started the talk of snakes in my house back in 2001... they were awhole lot smaller than those two though.. Glad my niece convinced to go with Corns for my daughter's first snake :)
