New Part Time Job!!

So...I was hanging out in my favorite shop the other day, looking at snakes and rats and RTBs and such...they also have a TON of birds...parrots, cockatiels, a giant macaw, and African Greys...and just walking around, looking, playing with the animals and what-not.

Now...this is the store that gave me my ball python, and also the one which I gave an anery motley female to the owner as a "display pet" for the shop. A young man(of about 17) came in and was asking about the reptiles and snakes, and the owner was swamped with other customers, so I stood there talking to him for a little about the different snakes there and taking them out of the cages and such.

When all the customers had left, and the young man I was talking went home with a new red tail boa, a 29gallon critter cage, heat mat, thermostat, and water dish, the owner approached me and asked if I wanted a job. I thought she was kidding...until she handed me an application.

In the same breath that she said "Start next Friday", she also said, "You need to go through all my books and catalogues and get all my reptiles set up properly, as well as order stuff for sale to the customers."

So I now have a second p/t job in my favoritet pet store in the area. I am actually pretty excited about it, because I get to set-up the reptiles and snakes as well as prepare the store for MY hatchlings next summer. This should be real neat and fun experience, I think...

Yes, congrats with that you deserved it helping out that guy. Now we know that's one pet store that won't have bad snakes.

Once again congarts and good job.

Hehe...yea, maybe. That little quote underneath my "name" is auto-generated based on the number of posts you have. I suppose I could chaange it, but...ahh...whatever :D...

Congratulations! I always wanted a job at a pet shop. There's a big frozen rodent/mass snake breeding facility here- I wonder if I'd get an employee discount? Oh yeah, it pays $7/hour...

That'll be cool to make a nice reptile section for the store. And you can pre-screen hatchling buyers!

I like the "I think" part at the end.
Sounds kinda like how I landed my job at petco in the fish department. I would go and talk with them so much, and whenever they were busy I would answer questions.
It eventually paid off ;)

Congrats on the awesome situation.

Unfortunately, it doesn't pay enough to support myself and my daughter on, so I still have to keep my "day job", and I'm only working at the shop 2 days a week...But...I am preparing care sheets for all the reptiles and I will have the opportunity to sell my more expensive hatchlings on consignment...and I'll be able to "screen" hatchling buyers, so...I think the benefits outweigh any potential negative aspects(waking up early on Friday and Saturday...things like that).

Plus...this is the same shop I got my MBK, my floridana/eastern king intergrade(Thanks Mike, for the insight ;)), AND my BP, as well as all my female breeder mice and my new breeder rat pair...so you never know WHAT I'm gonna come home with after a day at work...:D.

Congrats!

At least there will be one shop in town that customers will be able to get good info and herps from!

You can hand out my corn care sheet if you like, as long as you don't change it and I am credited for it.

Good luck!

Thank you, for that, Kathy. I really appreciate it. With having to write up sheets for all of the other reptiles we sell(and the sheer amount of research that is going to require), it sure will be nice to have one "taken care of". I really appreciate that, and will probably take you up on the offer!

Congrats! I started out in a pet shop way back in the beginning. It was a reptiles only shop so it was quite fun. Worked there 3 summers and saw some of the coolest animals and learned a ton! Good luck.

Awesome news Chris... I would just love to work in a petstore. At least now theres a store in town that will have everything setup properly and customers well educated! Keep up the excellent work!!!

Thanks, everyone, for the positive responses and support.

As the saying goes, If I can educate one person, and prevent 1 animal from needlessly dying, than all my "work" will be worthwhile...
