New snake question

If I were to get an adult snake could I just feed him or her a few pinkies since I already have pinkies?

Thanks,

You COULD, but they won't have the same nutrition as an adult mouse. But if it's just for a feeding or two, I don't think it would be a problem. I just wouldn't recommend it as a permanent feeding plan.

For an adult snake, you'd need to be feeding about 30 pinkies (at 1 gram each) at a go to equal an adult mouse. And pinks are much lower in calcium so a long term diet on that would be harmful to the snake.

So what should I do with the pinkies I have?

Obvious solution >> buy another snake, a hatchling corn to be exact. It's a win-win situation, the f/t pinkies now have a purpose in their not-so-living, life (being dead is just a minor detail) and you get another addition :dancer:

On a serious note, do you have any smaller snakes that could possibly eat them? I'm not sure, but can other reptiles eat pinkies? << Anyone know? I've only had snakes, so other reptiles are out of my area of knowledge.

Pinkies are a great source of protein for omnivorous/carnivorous reptiles. I have a friend with a tegu (big terrestrial lizard from Argentina) who occasionally feeds pinkies.

I've seen an occasional post on Craigslist for frozen rodents. Maybe you could post and see if anyone local needs pinkies. Some ice packs for a short drive would probably keep them safe.

If you are worried about a baby, get a yearling or other juvenile that is not yet an adult. Then you get the fun of seeing it grow, but it will be better established than a baby. And you can feed it a pinkie plus a fuzzy or weanling, or whatever it is eating, until the pinks are gone.
