Well, I've been visiting this forum for a few weeks since my 8 year old decided he wanted to get a snake. I began researching and quickly determined that the corns were consistently named as the best snake for a beginner.
Well, we are now the proud hosts of a male Sunglow. After arriving on Tuesday morning, he had his first meal tonight. The hardest part of the whole meal was finding him in the Aspen substrate. Once we did that, placed the pinkie in his shipping container, then placed him in it, and "open wide." Whole family circled around quietly to watch.
One hitch along the way. A number of web sites and care pages recommend the use of a under tank heater and to keep it in the low to mid 80s. Well, we picked up the UTH appropriate for our 10 gallon glass-bottomed tank (we'll get a larger one later) and man that glass was hot. Over 90 at the top of the substrate. Fortunately I found out just how hot it was before the snake arrived. Even placed news print to absorb the heat. Even jacked the tank off the book case we are currently on to allow heat to dissipate. Well, after searching I came across this site and some of the discussions on thermostats. We ordered one last night. We are in Texas, and the room stays around 78 during the day and a little cooler at night, so I'm hoping "Stan" can tough through it until the thermostat arrives the first of next week.
Thanks for all the information...
