Hey everyone! I stumbled on this forum while looking up different corn snake patterns, and since I just bought a baby corn snake, I thought it would be a great chance to get inside info and tips from old pros! heres a little background info about, just in case you are interested...

My name is Sara, I'm 16 and in grade 11. I've always been interested in reptiles, but I never realized my love for snakes until I got to high school. My school has an awesome program called the Living Lab - its a classroom that has been partially converted into several tanks where we keep many kinds of reptiles, from snakes, to skinks, to basalisks. I'm very involved with the Lab, and I love going mostly to be able to play with the snakes. Recently, the teacher who heads the program got several baby corn snakes from a friend who breeds them, and decided to sell them to students. I jumped at the opportunity, and after begging my mom to let me have one (she's terrified of the beautiful creatures) I finally brought home Pickle (odd name, I know, but I figured it was better than Fluffy :p)

It was a rough start at first - Pickle wouldn't eat, so Chuch (our nickname for the teacher who founded the Living Lab) brought him back to his friend, who nursed my little guy back to health. Since then, I'm very happy to say he's been doing great! I can't wait until he's full grown and see what kind of pattern he has. That's actually how I found this forum - I was researching the different subspecies and colour variations to try and solve the mystery. Later, I'm going to try to post a picture of him - I'm still finding my way aroung the site. Hopefully some of you will be able to give me some hints as to how he will look as an adult!

Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and benefiting from your knowledge! Because of my time at the Living Lab, I'm pretty experienced with snakes, but I'm not too familiar with the proper way to care for babies. If any of you have some tips for me, I'd be happy to hear them!

Thanks everyone!

Welcome and congrats on your baby :). Hope you enjoy this forum and learn as much from it as the rest of us have.
You are very fortunate to have a school and teacher willing to set up such an awesome project! Shows how far we have come since I was in high school, lol.

Welcome! There is so much information here, sometimes its hard to know where to start. You'll find a lot of basic information in the FAQ on the main menu. Also, if you don't have it yet - Kathy Love's book "The Comprehensive Corn Snake Owner's Guide" is wonderful! You can get it from her website:
www.cornutopia.com . There are some great websites around to check out all the different morphs on - www.serpenco.com and www.cornsnakes.net both have great photos and several of the members here are working on their own sites with photo galleries too.

Enjoy!!

SSSarah,
Welcome to the forum.....I think "Pickle," is a fantastic name for a snake. I have one named Chairman Mao......naming them is a lot of fun.....

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the warm welcome, Chris, Deb and Traci. I'm really excited to watch my snake grow over the years - hopefully he makes it that long, because I just found out that out of the 16 baby corns that my teacher ordered, Pickle is the only one still alive... I'm really hoping that the others just didnt know how to take care of them and that its not a genetic problem... Well not that I hope the others didnt take care of their snakes, but you get what I mean lol. He seems to be doing fine though, he hasnt refused a meal since I got him back from the snake specialist. I've been feeding him half a pinky about once a week... do you think that I should be feeding more/less? I'll be looking for that book you mentioned, Deb - I've been reading through the forum's archives and it sounds like everyone has it, so it must be good!

:-offtopic I wondered if any of you could tell me how to attach a picture to a thread? I'd like to post a picture of Pickle on the Genetics page to see if anyone has any ideas about what morph he is. I'll need a pretty detailed description... I'm not too computer savvy where the internet is concerned. I do have my own page on Photobucket - someone told me to use that... but i have no idea how! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Just copy the Imj line (third one down under your pic in photobucket) and paste it in the reply box. I think there are other ways but that is easiest.
