my babies will be hatching in about a week and a half. i need to order mice to feed them. so far all 17 eggs look healthy, so i was going to order mice online to save on costs. what size pinkies should i get? one day old? a few days old? how will i know when they are almost ready to hatch so i can start checking on them every few hours? any advice on hatching/keeping babies would be appreciated. i already bought 2 tanks to be able to feed them individually and then move them to the other tank. how soon after hatching should i start trying to feed them? thanks guys!

Order small pinks. If the smalls are too big for any tiny hatchlings, you can always cut them in half.

Eggs generally hatch 55-65 days after being laid, but their is no way to for sure tell you when exactly they're going to start to pip. At that, their is no reason for you to check on them every few hours. No matter how often you check them or how hard you will them to come out, they will come out when they are ready to. ;)

They should be kept individually (Jeff Mohr sells an inexpensive hatchling rack) no later then their first shed. Hatchlings generally do not feed until after their first shed.

I wait until after the first shed to feed (about a week after hatching). Often times the eggs will dent before hatching but so far this year they have hatched without any denting. I order my mice from Rodent Pro. They have extra small pinks, small pinks, large pinks and on up. There will be some size variance in each bag so instead of getting a bag of extra small pinks (since you'll only have 17 hatchlings) you can get a bag of small pinks and separate out the smaller ones to use first. Get a bag of large pinks and do the same and that will give you a nice range of sizes to progress through. :)
