Hi:
I've left a few posts, but I'm pretty new to this. We got our snakes 4 days ago, and they look great. We got them form Rich... I've noticed the last day or so that the two younger ones are climbing up thier cages and settling in the ridge between the cage and the lid.. Is this normal? Is thier cage two warm? The temps seem fine, 86 on the warm side, which they hardley ever go to, and 72 on the cool. I'm worried that they get too cold when they are up on the top like that cause our house is pretty cool and it has to be about 68 at the top where they keep going. They will stay there for hours. Maybe I'm just worring too much, but I just want to make sure they are okay. What do you all think?

Thanks for the replies in advance,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
I think roaming around in that little space is pretty much normal. I think they are looking for a way out, so make sure the lid is real secure. Mine still does it all the time. He is a little big to fit in there now, and he was taking some real bad spills, until I put a group of branches in, for him to use, to get down. Good Luck.

That sounds like normal behaviour - make sure there is no way of escape, make sure they have hides in the rest of the cage at different temperatures for when they want to warm up, and don't worry about it

Hi! Congrats on your new snakes!
I've had many of my snakes do the same thing. I think they are exploring and when they find that little dark crevice they feel very secure hidden in it. As long as you have a nice warm place for them to go to when they require it, they'll find their way back to it when they need to.
Oh, one thing- Now that all of my tanks have the sliding screen lids, my snakes have nowhere to do this anymore, so I'm guessing you have a snap down lid? Just a friendly warning... make sure your snakes can't push into that crevice enough to push up the lid and escape!! I lost one this way a while back! Now I do not use those types of lids anymore.
Good luck with your new snakes!!!

Thanks, I have lid clips to keep to lids on tight cause I know these little guys get out a lot if hey can... i just worry about her getting to cold. When i touch her, I can feel she is cooler than the other snakes.

Michelle,
SneakySnake, chosing to be, (in the little crack), and cold, when he had every opportunity, to "get warm", worried me for a while too. It does really seem, that they pick their individual "comfort zone", I swear sometimes he feels like a wet rope that has been out too long. Far be it for me to change that. Mine does seem to realize, that hanging out on the top, and "free falling", will get him an extra trip or two out of his cage. He uses this alot, which is O.K. with me, because I try to let him be boss.

Sneaky suspicion here, he would be out ALL the time, were it left up to hm. Guess he has trained me well.

Good luck!
