Old enough to know better
I am! Less than 24 hours after I gave you advice I just came home from work and noticed the hinged top on Gus' viv was lifted up a bit, with Gus-sized gaps in the corners (he is thin and small, about 80g). Yup, I destroyed the viv looking for him, no luck. It is 5am, I am exhausted from work and 1 hour of snake searching, and sick to my stomach.

I laid out flour lines crossing several room entrances, I am blocking all doors with a towel, but I have 6 cats that would LOVE a new plaything. I am just praying he is safely hidden away and that the flour lines will point me in the right direction. I can't do the tape, all the cats thought it was a new curly toy and destroyed the ones I made. I will make more tomorrow and put them in places that Gussy could be but the cats can't get to.

And here I was, very proud to know the protocol of finding snakes but overconfident I wouldn't have to use it.

I miss my Gussy.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this! Hopefully Gussy will be cat wary and keep well away from your kitties. Thank you for your kind words, it helped me when I was getting upset to think about my poor baby girl being AWOL. Now I will return the favour. I had to resort to cheating a little by keeping the room cold (I usually have it fairly warm for the snakes and spiders) so that she'd be attracted to the heat mat. Then she would smell the rat pup in the trap. Maybe that's something you could consider. The old coke bottle trap trick. Lily fell for it hook, line and sinker! I do hope Gussy comes home soon. It's very distressing to lose any animal that you love. Heck, I've even lost my beloved dog before (thank goodness she was chipped) after someone left my back gate open without me knowing about it!

Don't beat yourself up! It's in a snakes nature to try to escape. From the most experienced to the least experienced, snakes try to get out.
I hope you find your Gussy, and soon! Good luck sweets.

Hope you find him! I have an amazon that has gotten out of his cage twice...the second time the doors were closed so I'll be danged if I know how. It took me more than a week to find him and he can't get out of a closed snake room...for a while there I thought that somehow my secure room wasn't so secure. I had torn the whole room apart...looked between the banks of cages and each level of cages...I looked on top, above the window....everywhere. This was a full sized adult amazon too...not a baby! I gave up after a week and in the second week I decided to just shine the flashlight down between the banks of cage levels and there was the eye shine....Had to move layers of cages to get him out!! They are quite good at getting out of thing!

Good news! I was just drifting off (got off work early and just felt so sleepy) and my husband came into the bedroom loudly (he is usually so quiet I never hear him) and shook my leg and startled me, I sat up and he said "missing something?" and he is holding Gus!!! Gus was behind an old computer and some other small boxes in the computer room right around the corner from his viv, Jim was on the computer and all the cats were very interested in something in that corner. I am glad he is so brightly colored (Amel stripe) because he was easy to see back there.

Oh, sighing with relief, I have the best husband and the 6 greatest furry detectives! AND Jim offered to vacuum the flour for me! I am one lucky girl.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, and Jacquee I think the positive thoughts and kind words crossed the pond and proved that Karma is for real.

Thank goodness for that! I mean if you're going to get woken up then that's got to be the best way for it ;)
