Normal Behavior?

My newest corn, an albino named "Cornelius," has taken to burying himself in the bedding at times, normally under his warm end hide. The temp is 86 in the warm end, 76 in the cool.

I just didn't know if this was normal or not...

yep, cornsnakes like to burrow in their substrate--perfectly normal! Mine make tunnels through the substrate and sometimes never come out!

Is your corn a baby? Does he have enough hides in his viv to feel safe? If he does, then burrying into the aspen sounds like normal corn behaviour to me :)

he's got two hides, he is a baby...I thought it was normal, but little Sijan (who died on New Year's Eve after a couple regurges...) never did it. At first, I thought the little guy had gotten out.

The other thing the little one did last night, while he was shedding (he had a bad shed, so I put him in gladware with a damp towel) was that he bit himself. I had to let him crawl through a washcloth in my hand to get the skin off (no problem, by the way).

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Yep normal. My baby corn does that all the time.
He thinks he's cool and invisible doing that and sticking just his head out and being really still if you come near him from time to time.

Very normal behavior, regardless of how many hides you give em. Some just like it under the substrate.

My little girl Muse is like that. Her favorite spot is under the substrate, next to the water dish. I don't know why because she has three hides in her tank. That's just the way it is!

Good Luck

Wayne

Make sure you measure the temp under the substrate at the warm end, where the Corn likes to spend its time. If you're using a UTH, then it'll be hotter than the surface of the substrate and you might need to adjust it down a few degrees.

That's why I always feel kind of sorry for snakes that are housed on paper towels or reptile carpet or whatever; they are missing out on the natural behaviour of burrowing. Well, they _can_ burrow under that stuff, but it isn't optimal. For burrowing.

Well Nanci I use my paper shredder and shred my newspaper so they can burrow. It works pretty well!
