not sure whats happening

So sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did everything you could for the little guy. Hope this doesnt deter you from getting another snake.

Very sorry for your loss. Don't let this put you off having snakes, it really doesn't sound as though you did anything wrong.

 wow, you guys are awesome, thansk a lot. Don't worry it wont deter me from getting another one(or two or three)

I'm so sorry. Sometime it is just not meant to be. I believe what you are seeing on the belly is something that happens after the snake dies. I believe some people have said that it is related to the gall bladder.

I hope you can find another cornsnake to give a good home.

Joanna

i do believe the gall bladder may have been the problem. my snake regurged twice, although not consecutively, then refused food, then eventually went listless, like he was already dead. when i took him to the vet, he suggested it was a blockage, or a gall bladder disfunction. sorry about your loss...spookily similar to mine. maybe you could contact me and we can discuss details if you want. :wavey:

Snake died from possible obstruction, or gall bladder problem. hard to confirm without a post mortem, which i was too late for, as the place closed.

Sound familiar?

Yes that was me. i feel that since i spoke very out of turn, and got banned for it, it is time to turn a new leaf. Rona is my real name, and i am committed to making a real go of it this time. I hope i will, in time, be forgiven by all i offended 1st time round, if i am allowed. it is strange though that there's another one gone with similar symptoms. I think i read somewhere once that the survival rate for hatchlings was poor. can someone refute or support this?

Rona

I don't necessarily agree. Overall, corns are pretty hardy and with proper care, I'd say most do fine. I've never lost one yet, and my babies that I hatched are all doing well so far. I have 3 out of 21 that won't eat and so may be euthanised eventually, but all the others are healthy and thriving. In the wild, I'm certain that only maybe one out of 10 or more would survive to see adulthood, but mostly because of predation not other things.

perhaps it was regarding corns in the wild i was reading about. it was some time ago. thanks for the info, its good to hear this.

Yah I actually posted a reply on that thread becuase mine was acting so similar to that.

I just wish I knew if it were caused by my err or not , if you don't know you can't learn from the mistake.

I was wondering if Rona was actually a banned member (skimpy) posting under a new user name--a violation of Rich's forum rules. She confirmed it.

I'm really very sorry about your snake, and it doesn't sound like anything you did wrong. Sometimes they just don't make it.

The behaviour you described is called "stargazing" and I have heard it is usually a neurological problem. I had this happen to a ball python befor eit died.
Sorry for your lose. Hugs!

Yah i know that is a disease in pythons and boa's. Thats why I went for a corn for my first.

Well anyways going to get stryker II in a couple weeks!

How tragically ironic. I'm so sorry for your loss I have lost a few snakes in the past and its allways hard. I hope this doesn't turn you off snakes. Good luck. :)
