odd egg laying...

jayson rafter

a.k.a Reptile Rafter
so here's the deal...this female was bred on 3/11/2011 & dropped her first egg on 3/31/2011 thats 20 day's!!!. now i know they can retain sperm from the previous year(what im assuming is the deal) so im not franticly worried (at the moment) now 3 day's have passed & she hasnt dropped any more? & i can visually see she's got plenty more in her.so my real question is... could she be eggbound? kinda early to tell for me seeing as she hasnt even had her pre-lay shed yet & she's atleast 10 days early on the lay.so how & when do i decide if she's eggbound??

(back story on her....2008 first yr.bred 26 eggs/d.clutched 13 more,2009 2nd yr. laid all slugs!!/d.clutched 8 good eggs???,2010 14 laid/2 made it/d.clutched 12 all slugs.) fyi...she's is the only one out of 15 females!! always gotta be one right !! lol

any info would help,i have plenty of experiance breeding (10yrs +) so im no newbie, but i am to eggbound corns (if thats the case?)

thanks in advance!!

Did that first egg look fertile? Sometimes they can "clear out" odd slugs in advance of laying a fertile clutch and the gap can be quite lengthy.

I had a 'wax' egg from my first female that laid her eggs this year. I think it was about 10 days or so before she laid the actual clutch. If there's no 'jamming' of eggs, I'd just let her be. If am 'egg jam' forms, there's a chance of egg binding, an injection with calcium could be the thing to help her out then (at the vet). Or if the first egg seems to be exceptionally big or oddly shaped, the vet might drain the egg with a syringe and hollow needle. Or both.

first egg was a slug, not oddly shapped just a slug...it was soft at first, now hard as a rock. but i expected that. well im givin' her,her space...for now, most likley she's fine? just was weird to get that egg/slug so soon.

Sounds like she's still brewing the good ones then! Fingers crossed for you/her.

One of my girls took 5 days from the time she laid her first slug, & laid several slugs & on day five, one of the eggs was good.
