I agree on the complacency of some and would far prefer action to inaction. But is being referred to as a freshman really an issue of unfairness or inequality? I guess I fail to see how it has much to do with actual inequity and more to do with placation. Now if they were stating a female doesn’t deserve the title of freshman because they are female or segregating classes based on sex or assigning tasks based on sex or if some gov form held over from the 1800s refers to women as those that are not allowed to vote or something akin (the list is endless) the inequality issue is in play.
Being PC just for PC sake though reminds me of the boy who cried wolf. When the actual wolf appears or a serious inequality issue arises doesn't it have a watering down effect when it matters most if every word is overly scrutinized? Isn't curtailing the first amendment more offensive than being referred to as a freshman?
I understand there are some words and/or their use that need changing. I don't want to broad brush that all PC is bad. I am not trying to be facetious I truly want to understand how much of the PC today helps society much more than, as Bethany said, making a complainer feel good. :shrugs:
