Old Dog Bella, New Dog Ella!

Bella is doing okay. She was running a little bit, in the house, yesterday. She wanted to play with Ella. Today, she's a little quieter. The whole leg looks a lot better- the swelling is going down, the redness of the seroma is going away. She goes back to the vet for a wound check tomorrow, and gets her stitches out in a week.

Update: Bella had to have surgery again last Thursday- an hour and a half to remove dead tissue from the wound closure and re-do it. It looks a lot better this time. She also got an inflatable collar to prevent ANY licking while I am not watching her. Ella is impatient for Bella to play. Last night Ella got her rope toy out of her crate and brought it to Bella. Tug of war ensued!!

That's so cute!

When my old golden retriever was getting too old to roughhouse with my younger golden retriever, they would often lay and play. Berkeley, the younger one, would always be on his back, chewing on Cody, the older one's, neck and chin.

I don't really have a picture of that specifically, but here's one of Cody chewing on Berkeley's ear.

This makes me smile. I did a $2,500 hip surgery on my now passed on male shepherd when he was a year old. He lasted till 8 before having a lot of pain. A lot people thought it was crazy, but is do it again in a heart beat. He was the sweetest dog I've ever known, and giving him 7 pain free years was one of the best things I've done in my life (and I have a lot of bad to make up for, ha!)

Love it!!!!

She's Looking great!!!

I think they BOTH deserve a butt scratchie for being good girls!! :)

That's wondeful Nanci! She looks great and looks like she's having a blast! I used to do a lot of cowboy action shooting...looked like a fun shoot also! The beardie on the Rhoomba made me laugh my head off!

She looks very happy and she is very lucky to have such a caring owner as yourself nanci! It makes me so happy to see this you have no idea. I consider myself a fairly "manly man" but i must say that reading this entire thread i have had a knot in my throat the size of an apple:'(. I wish the best for your babies and will keep them in my prayers!

Katie (ArpeggioAngel) stopped by to visit with her new pup. I needed a photo of Bella and Ella for Ella's upcoming Gainesville Today article on rescue dogs with happy endings. Bella is AWFUL!!!!! to try to photograph...

Bella and Ella went tearing over to the fence today to meet the neighbor dog for the first time. Well, Bella had met him once last summer as a pup. I was surprised to see that he is now missing a leg and an eye. He got out for the only time ever and got hit by a car 11 days ago.

It was love at first sight for everyone involved. I'm pretty happy, since Bella has always been not very tolerant of other dogs.

Poor fella. Nothing seems to slow them down for long, though!

I am such a sucker for pit bulls. Bella looks amazing & your neighbor's dog has also healed beautifully. It's amazing how fast they adapt to losing limbs, amazing & wonderful.

I love love love this story! I have to say honestly I've had tears in my eyes the entire time I've been reading through this.

I think you are so amazing for doing everything you can for these beauties! I have always loved the personalities of pit bulls, especially the sweetie little female pitties.

Bella looks to be doing wonderful and you have and continue to give her such a great life. It looks like she is enjoying the addition of Ella and of course you are an angel for making sure that Ella gets to live out a long and full life of her own.

Thanks for sharing your pretty puppies!
