OMG...I AM LOSING MY MIND...

I absolutely CANNOT believe my stupidity! We had to stop working on our new snake room midway through due to an unexpected business assignment out of town. As a result, our snake racks are in the dinning room, and we had to go out of town for 10 days.

We returned home yesterday, and this morning I defrosted prey items for each of the snake and got started feeding. After I fed all my adults, I took all the plastic shoe boxes I keep my babies in out of the the cabinet where the boxes live, and I started putting food in each container. However, midway through, my dogs needed out, so I walked to the back porch and let them into the yard. That's when I heard a big "crash"....

One of our cats had knocked 4 of the shoe boxes off the table. By the time I got there, he had killed one of my alternas, and a corn snake hatchling, a thayri hatchling, and a floridiana hatchling had all escaped.....

I have just found the corn snake, but the thayri and the floridiana are still loose. JUST when I had FINALLY found my missing adult tharyi!!!

Now we are back to having the cats locked up in our bedroom and me having a nervous breakdown! :(

I am so ready to cry....

Oh s#!t what bad luck!!! I'm actually mad at your cats for you.
All I can say is I'm so sorry to read this, and I hope you find your missing babies. I'm sure you know about all the many threads on here about finding/trapping loose babies. Don't forget to look up high as well as under and inside of and behind everything. Don't throw anything in the wash without checking it thoroughly, and block every exit to that room if you can to keep them localized.
And I'm so so sorry about your alterna. :'(

Ouch!

Sorry for your loss. I do hope you find your missing sneaky ones, especially before your kitties do. But you should also cut them a little slack, as they were just being kitties and that's what they do! I know. I've been trained by several of the little furballs!! I have to keep my snakes locked in a separate room in our apartment, as both my kittens and my wife BOTH misunderstand them in their own ways. Can't teach a zebra to change it's stripes.

Hope you feel better.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Still haven't caught them yet, but one did go through one of my flour lines last night, so I will be putting out tiny little mouse cages w/ live mice tonight w/ towels over the cages. Hopefully, they are hungry!

I can't believe with how often I check this board, that I missed this until now. I'm so sorry for you loss. Best wishes with the traps!

Thanks, I appreciate the good wishes!

Still no luck, but I am not letting it get to me! It took over 2 months to find the last escapee, so I am just going to keep trying!

Will keep you all posted!

Hoping it's happy news sooner rather than later!

Thanks! Me too! I have had the mice in cages out for the past 3 nights, but still no luck... :(
I fully intend to find them, but (as you well know) it really is a waiting game with snakes!
I will keep y'all posted!

Sorry to hear this. I had a rack incident and my escapees were an ultramel lavender tessera, ultramel cinder, and the most perfect candycane. The ultramel cinder showed up over 2 months later, sitting in the middle of the floor. So there is always hope!

Lol That is what makes it SO maddening! I have found escaped snakes 3 times now....unfortunately, I have never actually found one ~while~ I was looking for one... :-/

I guess that's why we affectionately call them our sneaky ones. I hope you find them soon. I've been there and it's not fun.
