Our First Rescue

So, ever since my wife and I lost Loki, we have been going to the Adoption day's at Petco. Today was one such day, but they only had 2 dogs there, and neither one was what I was looking for, so instead we went to the Farmers Market and found out that they had a shelter there doing rescue's too.

Well, when we walked up we noticed they had a few puppy's and some older dogs, and then we noticed this little girl sitting over by herself. She seemed very nice and wagged her tail and licked our hands, well the guy working asked if we wanted to walk her on the leash and we said sure. When he pulled her out she immediately went into "I am scared of everything!" mode and almost got away from him. Right at that moment I told my wife that we needed to take her home.

The lady who runs the shelter came up to me and asked which one I was filling out paperwork for and when I told her she said that the dog is lucky to have someone want to take her after she was acting so scared. She also went on to inform me that she was on the list for the next group of dogs to be euthanized.

I can tell you that I have never been so happy to get a new pet, my wife was walking her around while I filled out the paper work and she fell in love with her.

The tag on her kennel said that she is a pit bull mix, I am not sure what all she has in her, but I can tell that she has had puppies, at least once before.

Oh, the adoption fee is $75 and that includes vaccines, micro-chip, sterilization, and registration tag.

And now for what I know you have all been waiting for, a link to the pictures.

I set them as public, so you should all be able to see her.

This was the one good thing that came from losing your beautiful boy. I know Loki is at the Bridge smiling down on you. Good Job!!!

I LOVE her! I think she's gorgeous.

I'm not really seeing much pit in her, actually. Her face is a bit square, but if she does have any pit it's minimal. My first impression is some kind of hunting dog mix. Some kind of pointer or something. BUT! With mutts it's so hard to tell lol. :p Make sure to give her lots of hugs and kisses!

I will have to get some good pictures but I was thinking some type of bird dog mixed with Rhodesian ridge back. She has a strange cowlick from the base of her skull until her shoulder blades. I think that she is just a Heinz 57 though.

She is a lucky girl! I worked at the Humane Society in an adoption kiosk in the mall and one very sad case stands out in my memory. I will never forget this little guy nor the family that adopted him. He was a little yorkie mix. He was tiny, about a year and a half old, and scared sh*tless of everything and everybody. Another girl had brought him from the shelter that morning, why I will never know. I sat on the floor for 3 hours slowly giving him treats and winning over his trust. He sat in the carrier growling most of the time. I finally won his little heart and trust and I had a friend by the end of the night. He was very sweet after you won his trust but he made you work for it thats for sure. I was so sad because I thought for sure that he would never be adopted. He would growl every time someone approached the kiosk, the whole time sitting on my lap on the floor.

She brought him out the next day and I actually had a couple, no kids or other pets, adopt him. I can remember him growling in the carrier the whole time they were walking away with him. I thought for sure he would be returned. WRONG! They won him over and he turned out to be the best dog! It would take him a while to warm up to strangers but man he loved that couple. They continued to bring me updates and pictures of him.
Total success story.

I hope your girl is a success story too, she deserves it.

pretty dog, I dont see much if any pittbull in her really though. If she acts scared she could have been beaten by her last owner. Giver her time im sure she will warm up to you :D

Congrats on the new family member. Like others have said, I see very little pit in her. What I see is possibly a little hound. Either way I'm sure with lots of love and gentleness she'll become a wonderful family member!

She is a sweetheart. Luckily we are doing a foster to adopt thing... We have to take a stool sample today, and let them know that she breathes heavy and coughs when she goes to stand up after laying down. The lady at the kennel told me that it is not uncommon for the stress of these adoption days to bring out signs of sickness in the dogs, but since we are on the foster to adopt, they will treat her for free. We will pay the adoption fee on the day she goes to get fixed.

They told me that she tested negative, but we are taking her to the vet she has been seen by and I will ask what her chart says. Heart worms was definitely something I thought of when she first started coughing...

Just got back from the clinic. Apparently she was supposed to come home with some antibiotics for the cough, but they forgot to give them to us. They wormed her and gave us the doxy, for her cough. She is now sleeping on one of my bags I got when I was in the military. She has decided that it will be her bed...lol.

Oh and my wife chose a name, Isabelle.

Beautiful dog! Love the name too, LOL. That is what my Chihuahua is named. She looks a little like a friend's pit/lab cross, so I can see a bit of pit in her but like other's have said I think if she is, it's less than half.

Hope the cough clears up quickly!

What a cute dog, she looks kind of Beagly to me, houndy looking. Our dog was a rescue and he had a rough few days, he was fostered at a pet store. He pooped and puked sawdust for days.W ith the help of our vet he got it all out of his system. He is such a great dog, I think rescues are pretty much grateful dogs.
Very good deed, Aaron, love the name.
