Our New Rescue - Advice Needed

The problem is, if they get a heavy load of worms, they will also not utilize all their food since the worms will be stealing a lot of the nutrition. It can also cause diarrhea, bleeding and other health issues. I really think he's older than 4 weeks. He may be small but he's eating and he's pottying on his own.
Agreed. Worming him with a safe dosage for his weight will be a boost for his overall health and body condition.
He's such a cutie!

Yes, panacur is fenbendazole and has few if any side affects. Occasionally it will cause diarrhea but it's rare. We routinely do all our foster puppies and dogs with it when they come into foster as most have worms or have had fleas that gave them worms. Most of the time the panacur really helps the animal feel BETTER rather than bad.

If I'm not mistaken, Panacur is fenbendazole, a gentle dewormer. Works by stopping the worm from absorbing nutrients. Shouldn't make him feel too crummy or anything either so yeah I really would go have him checked. Wow, with all this discussion he's going to be one pampered puss. Can't wait to see his little mug when he's all filled out and tearing your place apart :)

I hadn't realized kittens could be dewormed so young. I will go ahead and see if we can get some dewormer for the little munchkin. We weighted Leonidas again today, and he's now 13.8 oz! That's almost 4oz in as many days! What a little piggy. He was trying to eat my brie cheese and crackers today too...

Leo's "going to be" pampered? Oh lord. He's been here 4 days and he's spoiled rotten. With us at all times as long as someone is home, cries and cries if you put him in his box, fed whenever he whines that he's hungry, played with relentlessly. I need to see if I can get a video of him playing--he just bounces around like he's spring-loaded, and rolls over and wrestles like a tough guy.

My mom insisted that since she found Leonidas that he's her cat and that she's in charge of when he would go to the vet for deworming, etc. As a result, every mammal in our house is now being treated for ringworm. *sigh*

But even as you're itchy as hell and oh god why, how can you be mad at this face?

He's lost his baby blue eyes now. And just LOOK at the size of those paws. Leo's gonna be a big boy.

Since ringworm is a fungus, not a worm, it certainly didn't happen because of a delay in worming. :)

It's been a little while since I updated, so here he is again. Leonidas is now about 6 1/2 months old, and he weighs 7+ lbs. He's huge already and his paws are telling us he's only going to get bigger. I even took a couple of pictures of him next to our adult cat for size comparison--she's 14 and he's not even 7 months old. He's a spoiled rotten little snot, and I can't imagine life without him~
