pet food recall

snakemom1961

Spring is here!
Since they've now had a dry food recall what are others thinking about doing since it seems even try food(which i've always fed my cat)?

Just wondering if others are as worried as me since I thought my cat was in the clear since he only ate dry food. Any idea's and thoughts welcome.

When did this dry food recall come down? I had to take all the wet food off the shelf at Target last week---and haven't heard anything about a dry food recall---and Menufoods.com is saying that the recall only applied to certain wet foods.

They're now blaming the problem on wheat contaminated with melamine from China. I've heard nothing about a dry food recall.

The first I heard it was last nite on the news. So far it's limited to prescription brand, but I have to wonder if any dry we feed our pets will be affected.

Yeah we have to pull a bunch of stuff off at petsmart. And now they are recalling alpo wet food and dingos treats as of this morning.

So far the only dry food that has been recalled is Hills Brand Prescription M/D cat food. I expect this to get bigger.....

Yeah, that's the only one that we've been told about. And it is not related to the wet food recall. At least that is what Hill's has told us. That food had the wheat from China, but last I heard, the canned food problems originated in a Canadian factory. I've been feeding Purina dry to both my cat and dog and will continue to do so. We've had several clients coming in wanting their pets' blood tested, all have been fine. We had only one suspect cat, and he's doing well. I've heard that the cases with the wet food started back in December, so it's going to be hard to tell exactly how many pets have actually been affected. We have one other suspect case...a puppy that died in Jan. We blamed it on parvo or corona, even though the puppy had at least one vaccine. The symptoms fit, all except the duration. Poor thing lasted over a week before dying. Usually in parvo, a pup that small wouldn't last past 3-4 days. And it was the only dog in the household being supplimented with canned food.

Exactly what worries me. Are we putting our pets at risk even if we don't feed them the prescription brand food? How much further will this reach before it ends. It just scares me that us pet owners aren't going to have many if any safe foods to feed our pets in the very near future.
