Ahh.. PeTA.. I read before in this thread that PeTA was somewhat cult-like.
cult n.
1.
1. A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
2. The followers of such a religion or sect.
2. A system or community of religious worship and ritual.
3. The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious ceremony and ritual.
4. A usually nonscientific method or regimen claimed by its originator to have exclusive or exceptional power in curing a particular disease.
5.
1. Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing.
2. The object of such devotion.
6. An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest.
PeTA, by direct definition of the word, IS a cult. You'll have to excuse my poor memory, for specific terms don't stick too well, but general concepts do. In taking a class on Anthropology: Magic, Witchcraft and the Occult at a Community College here, we covered a brief section on cult mentality. The structure of a cult usually involves what we call "True Believers" at the bottom. These TB's yearn for something to latch onto. Typically, the specifics of their cause/religion don't matter, but sometimes they do. A great example of a time when it mattered was Nazi Germany. Not every German citizen was a TB persay, but everyone was looking for an answer, and a scapegoat. If anyone is a Nazi, it's PeTA.
The leaders of such cults are typically MUCH smarter than their followers (big surprise huh? Almost is, considering the leaders are still members of PeTA). The heads of PeTA know exactly what is going on, and I won't be one bit surprised if they orchestrate much of the terrorist action, but, unfortunately, they are smart enough to stay on one side of the law.. in most cases anyway. I feel sorry for the TB's that found PeTA's cause before they found anything else to believe in, for they are merely puppets, or more related to this particular case, sheep if you will

. A TB really has something wrong with their mind, to have to hold on to something so tightly to feel as though they belong.
Another great example of TB'ism are the extreme Islamics, the Taliban. Their culture right now is experiencing a type of cultural/religious extinction.. to survive this, they must adapt or fight, and they chose to fight. This has happened many, many times over history. So, you ask, am I compairing PeTA to Nazi's and Terrorists? Yes, I am. They are not experiencing a cultural extinction, but instead, in a way, are trying to make their own, IMO. In order to make their own, and be successful to the point that they are happy, they need to drive other, contradictory, cultures into extinction. In this, I am basically saying that they are saying "Our way or the highway because we are right!" The message between the lines? As with most everything else, it's about power. Control over the masses, and having everything their way
What the poor PeTA TB's don't usually know is that PeTA has bought a giant freezer and used it as a tax write off. Can you all guess what they use this freezer for..? No, it's not to store mass amounts of carrots for the apocalypse when god smashes all the meat-eaters... They euthanise THOUSANDS of cats and dogs each and every year because, by their own admittance, it's more cost effective that way. Not by their own admittance, is that they have to free up money to buy firebombs and pay their terrorist agents. Seriously.
PeTA also uses tactics that we see in cigarette company's and many other 'evil' organizations.. they target children. This is also by their own admittance. They aim mostly for kids in kindergarten, and work up from there. They say things like "Your Mommy Is A Murderer!" and such, because she makes them drink milk. I don't know about you, but if I had a 5 year old come home from school and list that I'm a murder as one of his reasons for not drinking his milk, there would be some black and blue PeTA b****es the next day...
Anyway, the fact of the matter is, as was said before, they are indeed dangerous. They target our children and bomb our buildings. Unfortunately, the conclusion to our cult mentality lesson was that it takes an extremist to fight an extremist. You have to feel passionately enough about what you're fighting for, or eventually you will be swallowed up in the madness. And it is madness. I fight passionatly about the truth, and my right to keep (and eat) animals. I personally enjoy going on the PeTA 2 message boards and informing them of PeTAs latest horrifying actions. I think I've reached a few people

Just a quick story.. in going to the circus we got to see some lovely PeTA demonstrators outside. I walked up to one and let her tell her tale, beginning to end, and get all into it and excited... I then said, "Nah, I don't need a pamplet, I f***ing hate you PeTA sheep" smiled my sweetest smile at the dumbfounded PeTA girl, and proceded to walk into the Circus... Not to say I was right or wrong, but it certainly felt good....
