I thought I was going to the MN Reptile Show just this past weekend but with work, I wouldn't have had the time. Before the show, I had emailed a breeder on the vendor list because his website listed that he bred kingsnakes (I also checked him out on the BOI). He said he had some, I asked for pics with the intent on picking one and getting it at the show, but then I had to back out due to work. He said that he could meet me in the cities if I couldn't make the show, and so we are headed there tomorrow to do some shopping and then bringing this little guy home. He is a mid August hatchling, and I am guessing based on this picture of him in a plastic shoebox that he is bigger than my 2012 Cal king. (Sherlock is now 13.5 grams, up from his 9 or so grams when I brought him home about 2 months ago).

I think I was doomed to get 2 kingsnakes eventually, because while I fell in love with Sherlock's unusual pattern and his personality, I still wanted a black and white banded.

If any of you followed my thread about wanting another, don't fear that I am going to end up divorced because my husband will be unhappy that I got another snake. We talked and it's all good.

I love the plain ole banded ones! Such pretty contrast. I hope he's a nice snake for you and I'm glad your husband approves.

Nanci, does your daughter share your love of herps? All of my kids do, but my oldest (my only boy) really does! He would have been begging for a box turtle at that show.
 
She loves lizards, frogs/toads, salamanders and turtles. She is not a snake person. Apparently my grandson had to hold a lot of adult cornsnakes at the show to prove he could handle a snake- with mixed success...He's 8. I have a perfect adult ready to go up there whenever she says okay!

I have the funniest photo of her, age 3 or so, sitting on a potty chair while we were camping, holding a gartersnake above her head with two hands. She refused to put him down.

That sounds more like my son, though he also likes little snakes. The adult corn snakes make him a little nervous, but he has a special bond with his corn snake, so I hope that he'll be just fine with her as she gets bigger. He's 11, going on 12. He also has a 2 tiger salamanders and a blue spotted salamander (wild caught) along with a leopard gecko, crested gecko, and the family's bearded dragon is in his room and he is always bringing home frogs and toads from our very plentiful lake to keep for a day or two. He found a few painted turtles this summer, too. I was a meanie and said that he had to release those too ... we don't have the space to care for them properly!

That's cute that he had to prove he could handle it. I bet that'll be a great day for you when you can give him one of your snakes!

I am looking forward to holding him and taking pictures. :) I haven't taken him out yet because he was fed yesterday and has a visible lump. I put him in a warm place so far.

The breeder brought another one in case I wanted to choose, and then he offered them both (the other was a female) so I could breed them if I wanted to, but I said no I better not do that!

Since I couldn't hold the new arrival, I held Sherlock quite a bit and took some pictures, mostly blurry. I am pretty sure the new one is bigger or just the same size as Sherlock. Crazy! But this one has been a good, although live, feeder from the beginning.
