Indeed Prelles, welcome to the forums, and apologies for the tangent your thread has taken. You'll do fine, though I too would recommend getting "the corn snake manual" by Cathy Love (someone else linked to it, but the pet shop very possibly has it too). It's fun to read, lots of gorgeous pictures, and all the info you could want!
On the "other topic" that has cropped up, I agree that it's easier to catch flies with honey than vinegar and all that. In the real world, would you correct someone doing something wrong (but not involving *immediate danger*) by screaming at them or by calmly telling them what they are doing wrong? Perhaps screaming will get you more of a response, but said response will be less likely to involve correcting the problem and more likely to involve fighting with you. Prelles is unusual in not getting deffensive when accused of not caring about her snake (as is obviously not the case) but most people are not so strong. If you truely care about the animal then take the route most likely to educate the owner instead of scaring them off; be civil, say what they are doing right along with what they are doing wrong, and try not to insinuate they are a bad person. It's not "dishonest" any more than not going up to strangers you think are ugly and telling them "I THINK YOU'RE UGLY!" is "dishonest".
