Planning for 2nd snake purchase

There are also other carpet pythons out there, between the Costal and the IJ size.

I have a 6 mo. old jungle as my first medium size snake, figuring that in the 6-8 ft range as an adult is all I feel safe to handle on my own. I chose a carpet because they aren't as heavy bodied like dumerils and some of the others, I have a bad back and don't want to be lifting 30+ lbs of snake. So far he's got quite a grip on him when he's hungry and trying to "kill" my hand, so I'm expecting him to be very strong as an adult.

The rosy boa is nice. We have 3 now, 2 adults just came today and we have had our other one for a little over a month and he is very sweet, laid back and easy to take care of. Look at the pics on here I just put on of Tikva and Rei..in this section

With the limited space I have , If im going to own 3 or 4 snakes at most , I'd like them to be as diverse as possible.

That's why I'm avoiding any colubrids or smaller snakes so the rosy boa , woma and children's pythons are out.

So far the carpet pythons or a medium sized boa like the nicaraguan are what i'm leaning towards. There's a show in Montreal in October , hopefully there'll be breeders of those around.

I like the coastal carpet but it's size is a bit of an issue.

I'm in the same position as you...and I'm glad everyone has helped you out because I have learned so much! I'm leaning more towards something arboreal or a Nic Boa. Still doing my research though.

Be sure to post up what you decide :)

If you haven't found it yet, you might want to check out http://www.moreliapythons.com for a carpet python forum, that's where I did some of my research before getting my newest.

Thanks.

If anyone has any more suggestions for medium sized boa's like the Nicaraguan's that are fairly common , I'd consider them.

It seems like all boa's have a distinct tail pattern and coloration to some extent or just a more constricted and darker version of their existing pattern at the rear ? If someone could enlighten me I'd appreciate it.

Thanks to everyone for their input and suggestions , especially to those who took the time to post pics.

Might be a while , was planning on pulling the trigger when I decided to upgrade my corn to larger tank but I am a bit obsessive so those plans won't last long i'm sure.

So far , unless I come across a BCI that really catches my eye , I'll probably be doing more research on Jungle carpets and Irian Jaya's. Their look , size and temperament seem to be what I'm looking for. There's something about bright yellow on a snake that's really attractive.
