pooping and weeing on me?!

Hi All,

The last few times that i have got flick out of his tank, he has been great and so carm!

Anyway, i've noticed that everytime i get him out to handle him, he poop's and wee's on me! (god does that stuff stink!)

I just wondered why he tends to do this whenever i pick him up? is it his way of 'scenting' me? is he nervous?

Any thoughts on this matter?

Also one more quick question... would it be a bad idea to house flick's tank next to my hasmters cage? obviously his tank wont be right next to the hamster's cage, but in viewing distant and i'd alway make sure his viv was securely done up each day, but i just wondered if the 'smell' or sight of a hamster would stress flick out and make him angry?

Thanks
Laura

He's just nervous. If he does it after you have him out for a while, then it's due to being exercised. I don't see a problem with housing him near the hamster.

I can only back up what nanci said on the hamster part. My snake is living in my room with a rat and a hamster and I have see no adverse reactions. I just make sure I thoroughly wash my hands first before handling her to get rid of any other animal scents.

I have 3 rats on one side of my room and 3 snakes on the other, I know the snakes can smell the rats, but i have had no adverse effects. Also, it sounds like you've been musked on! My hatchling did that for a while before i even had rats and the more i worked with him the less he did it until no more.

my snake always used to Pooh and wee on me. it was because when i first got him i always wanted to handle him so when i fed him i would let it digest for 4 - 5 days and then handle him. the exercises and movement made his stomach all loose and well what once went in came out but just this time all over me. :puke01: lol.

also i see no problems with the hamster cage and the snake in the same room. i have done this with birds and rabbits as well and have never had any problems.

thanks guys for all the help!

He only seems to poop and wee once he has been out of his tank and handled, so im assuming its just where he has been exercised rather than be scared? plus, he is so carm anyway..

The first time he ever pooped on me, it was followed by a wee and the some weird 'white' substance? what is this? all the other times, there was no white stuff, just his poop and wee!

Last night i actually managed to stop him pooping on me... i could tell he was going to do it as he froze in my hand and i could feel him 'squeezing'! so i quickly held him over some paper tissue and sure enough he went! LOL ...

lucky

lol. looks like you had a lucky escape. im not 100% sure but i think the white substance in the poo is bone or fur. dont take my work for it though because im not entirely sure.

There are 3 things that come out of the snake.
The poo, the urine and the urate. The urate is the white thing you will often see in the poo, or if they just pee you'll see some actual white substance, again this is the urate.

Self-defence corn snake style, hehe. Nice ey?

Are you holding your snake after a feeding? Mine will do that sometimes, too, because they tend to poo after getting some exercise.

yep, I've had it happen a few times as well.

If I think it's been a while since they last went, I watch them. I can kind of tell when they're about to go, their side starts moving in and out around the vent area - I have about 4 seconds to get them over a garbage can when I see that. If I can't pay that much attention to them, like when I'm on the computer, I'll stick them in an old shirt and put them on my lap in that. They get a nice hide, and I keep clean.

I don't think it's intentional. I would guess it's just the exercise, moving after a long period of inactivity. Kind of like how you have to go after waking up in the morning (but that's a just a guess, who really knows)

The important thing is not to put them in their tank after pooing on you. I've heard they actually 'learn' that pooing = getting put back in their safe spot, and they'll do it more often.

Another danger sign is if your snake is crawling along and then raises its tail. Watch out!
