The snake was only about 8 - 8 1/2' and thin, judging from the video I saw. But instead of immediately unwrapping it, he went and got a knife from someplace (unless he normally kept a knife in the child's room), and started stabbing it. For such a relatively small, thin, snake that was his pet, that sure sounded fishy to me. Keep in mind that I once had a 12 1/2' Burm wrap up my pet cat many years ago. My python was NOT thin, either. But I had little trouble unwrapping it to save the cat. I certainly did not think it was time to go searching for a knife to stab it! After having been in a somewhat similar situation (though not saying a cat is the same as a child, but a similar emergency), I can say from experience that the 911 call just never sounded right to me.

I sure wish that in addition to any sentence, they could both be sterilized, AND never allowed to own a pet of any kind in the future! Just my own opinion, of course!

I've always agreed with that 100%. This story never smelled right to me.

Seeing pictures of the snake being carried out of the house gave me pause for thought. It was really tiny and skinny for a Burm of it's supposed age.

If you break everything down, stabbing makes no sense. Skinny snake purportedly wrapped around a kid, so let's stab and potentially stab the child too in the process. Not likely a decision someone would make. Heck the way that snake looked a child in reasonable health could unwrap it. That's what leans me toward foul play of some manner.

I'm glad the judge and jury saw through the B.S. and the judgement seems fair, given the potential outcomes. They could have gotten a simple slap on the wrist, or scot-free like Casey. :sidestep:
