Question regarding female snakes

I heard someone say they preferred having male snakes because there's no danger of egg-binding. I was wondering if females laid non-fertilized eggs, how often they might do this, and what the dangers of egg-binding are. I tried doing a google search but kept coming across sites for breeding. I'm curious about non-breeding females. Do they lay eggs regardless of mating like other animals do? If so, should I worry about egg-binding?
 
I am not an expert AT ALL.
But yes, females can lay infertile eggs (slugs) although from what I have read it does not seem very common.
If they are egg bound they can die...so that is the concern. And apparently slugs are more difficult to pass according to some than a fertile clutch.
 
Egg binding is a possibility and can happen. But it is not really all that common and should not be your main consideration when choosing a snake. If you find a female you like, get and and enjoy it.

I've had a few snakes get egg bound over the years but just a few and I've had many snakes. Of those who have become bound, I've been able to solve the problem in every case and none of them have died. So yes it is there, but not the end of the world.

I'll try not to worry too much about it, but will definately get some info on the signs so I know what to watch out for.
