hi i was just wondering what everyones feelings where towards rack systems .iv bin reading a little bit online and iv seen their where many diffrent oppinions. the rack would be for corn snakes nothing bigger
I use both, so far no problems with the racking system. The racking system allows for more corns to be in your collection for a lower price and doesn't take up a lot of room.
Rack pros:
-better humidity/sheds
-precise control of temps
-snake feels secure (a tub in a rack is similar to the kind of enclosed space/burrow a snake would likely seek out in the wild - snakes do not enjoy "wide open spaces" as these make them vulnerable to predators)
Tank pros:
-A better visual display- looks "prettier" in a house

I couldn't agree more....if your wanting more than 1 or 2 corns...a rack system is the way to go....if you only have 1 or 2....then i'd enjoy them in a more realistic setting...IE...a terrarium. but...only 1 corn per..otherwise..you'd soon need to get a rack system!! LOL
We have four racks at this point simply because we live in a small townhome. It saves space-- especially when Tara and I moved in together and combined two "zoos."
I will say that from a human perspective I like the cages better. If I am ever blessed with the funding to do so, I think I will convert all of my sub-adult and adult snakes over to at least 2' x 2' cages, simply so I can see them better and have more decorating options. Racks can be really good for hatchlings-- so long as you buy racks specifically designed for hatchlings.
if your trying to convince a parent... all I gotta say is, if you or if you know someone that can build yourself one then it is very inexpensive, yes the visual aspect of seeing the corn is there, but they are perfect for corns when you want to house more then maybe 2. And if your going to be breeding.
