Rainbow Boa, Yay or Nay?

I haven't found my corn snake after the tank dropped in the earthquake but I believe he might have gotten in my ducts and died in there since he had a really nasty wound (well from what I saw from the lots of blood), for the story I have a thread in health issues.

I got an offer on a 2 month old Rainbow Boa for 50 bucks.

Are these snakes yay or nay?

I have done some basic research but since this is the best snake forum out there I would love some feedback from you guys or Boa keepers themselves.

I've got a spare 55 gallon with peat moss and a 1/3 of the tank I cut off with a piece of plexiglas for a soaking pool. I have a bought a humidifier and am now retrofitting it with a siphon to pour humid fog in the tank since my area is getting drier with the upcoming fall.

Thanks for anyone who replies I'm just trying to soak my brain in knowledge!

I like ours, particularly the ones we got as youngsters. Your set up sounds good as far as I can tell. Is it a Brazilian or one of the other Rainbows?

Great it's a Brazilian!
Little guys cute!

BRB's like it a little warmer and more humid than a corn. Watch the humidity levels inside especially in the winter months or you could have some bad sheds.

More humid yes, but temp-wise they actually prefer the same range as corns... they do very well as adults in an ambient of 26 degrees Celsius(they like it cooler than Boas and certainly pythons).

As babies I'd keep them as I would Corns temp wise, but with increased humidity.

I agree that their heat gradient falls in the same range as a corn (70 to 85) but the cool side needs to be a bit warmer for babies. I keep them at 75 ambient to 85 (max!) hot side.

Don't worry guys I have rigged a humidifier to the tank. One made for small kids that I hooked to the aquarium with an old siphon.

This is the tank. I took out the pokey pink rock. The soaking pool is empty but it does has a motorized waterfall where the humidifier is attached. There are live plants, hopefully they will help with humidity.

Oh and it's compacted wet coco fiber although it does look like sand. The bottom part is compacted clay and it's supposed to help when the soil gets too wet.

Nice set up...should do fine for a rainbow boa....it also should be large enough for a male....females can get larger though and a 55 might not be large enough. I loved mine....sadly he died a couple of years ago but I am getting a new one soon. You might need to cover the screen top at least partially with plexiglass or you'll dry out too rapidly....

I will get it sexed. I have a 75 gallon in storage that I picked up on the one dollar per gallon sale so when he,she does grow I will have a bigger tank available.

Thanks for every ones help. I bought him today and he's the most wonderfully cute fella.

He's in a QT tank until now because his tank isn't fully set up to my best efforts.
