One thing that tightens my jaws is when someone talks to you through their child. Or dog. Since closing down my fish room, a lot of parents who brought their kids in to look at fish have been disappointed that their free zoo is gone. It seems that nearly half of them want to tell me that they feel let down by saying to their kid (for me to hear) "They don't have any fish for us to look at anymore, let's go home." or worse, "Tell him, 'We wanted to look at fish and now they're gone.' " Really? Your 9 month old wasn't going to tell me that.
Thank you for blessing me with your child's presence, but that room cost $1,500 a month to keep open. Before closing it, I asked several people who came in weekly and didn't have fish tanks if they'd consider paying a small admission, which would be taken off of any purchase, but people looked at me like it was a crazy request. I didn't mind being a free zoo as long as the bills were being paid, but they just weren't. And the biggest complainers have been those that never spent a cent in my store. Which I could still live with, but say it directly to me, not through your child.
Those of you with small kids, try not to talk through them, especially to level a complaint. It comes across really flimsy. :grabbit:
