Red Coat

Red factor or whatever you would like to call it. I had a male fire years ago that I grew out and bred for a few projects as his babys hatched I noticed a amazing amount of Red on all of his offspring. As the babys grew out they seemed to have a wash of red over them. Here is a female Amel that was hatched out by T&J from the same line. She is het for Bloodred and Stripe. I hope to match her up with my Firestripe male and hoping to see some killer results.

WOW, those are awesome, especially considering that they're not homo bloodred!

Do you know how the red coat factor works on morphs that aren't red? For example, do Anery based morphs that are homo for red coat end up more pink or red than normal, or does the red coat manifest itself differently in these morphs?

Does your Fire Stripe male have some Red Factor as well? The Red Factor Striped Fires from this pairing will be Suh-weet. I'll definitely be on the lookout for some hatchling photos from this clutch. Good Luck on the pairings.

I was just admiring her picture again. I love how her saddles have no bordering. You could probably call her a Red Coat Sunglow. I really like this snake.

Cool project! Any more pics of "red coat" snakes?
Here is a nice comparison between female sibling Sunkissed. It is pretty easy to see the Non-Redcoat vs. the Redcoat.

I have been calling them Redcoat and others Red Factor, and now Red Coat. It will be interesting to see which one catches on in the long run. Whatever we call it, it exist.

Hi Jessicat,
It is nice to see a fellow thinker, ask a very good question. Now we need to become problem solvers, to see if we can come up with the genetic solution that causes the Red Factor Mystery.

I will tell you what I know so far in my next post. I have been watching this mutation for about 10 years now.

John of Colorado Corns has had some very "pink" anery A-based morph results from his "Tequila Sunrise" corns;

I think would be neat to put some of Joe P's theories to test with this line, so to see any possible results my breeding pairs are:

Hypo male (from hypo parents) X TS line anery A het hypo and amel:
any hypos should in theory be a mix of hypo and strawberry if she is indeed het
strawberry

TS line Snow het Hypo (untested for homozygous hypo) X Locality Okeetee:
Just to see if there is a "non-hypo" result in the coloring of the babies...

It helps that the TS line is very well documented on the American Corn Snake registry :*). One possible issue is that both the original parents carried hypo genetics; the father was a ghost and the "TS" mom was het hypo. All the F1's would be het from the father, but could they also be "dual het" by possibly picking up the hypo het from mom also? :shrugs:
