Regurge I Think

RutherML

New And Addicted Already!
I fed my snake minion last week on saturday morning and minion ate it up with no problem. Minion is about 15in long now so i got a little bit larger pinkie then what i have been feeding because the pinkie was leaving only a small bump in the belly. Today when i woke up i check on the snakes and they were doing just fine. BTW i have two snakes in same viv. But the temps is viv is low 70's on cool side and 80-81 on the warm side. It is a little harder to keep temps higher at the moment due to the cold weather that is blowing through right now. But i went home today for lunch and found what i think is a regurge in the viv. Would the snake regurge its food when it ate on saturday morning and regurged on a tuesday morning a 3 day period? Please let me know. Thanks for the advice.

Just to clarify question after all that:
Would the snake regurge its food after 3 days of eating?

Yes, I have had snakes regurge up to 3 days after eating. And it might very well be a regurge due to stress of having a cage partner. I would take a search for cohabitation on this forum to find out why you shouldnt house them together.

Yes the snake could regurge after 3 days. 1st thing you should seperate your two snakes. That can cause stress which could lead to a regure, and it isnt safe to have 2 snakes in the same viv. 2nd You should wait about 10 days then feed the one that regurged one mouse. Good luck.

well i did do a lot of research on the cohabitation topic and there are a lot of people who say not to and some people who say it is ok. A lot of people say that you should leave it up to yourself after you have researched the topic. Some people are successful and some are not with this. I am not trying to argue about this because a lot of the threads that i read a lot of people argued about it. But thanks for the advice and i will keep it in mind in the next couple a weeks wether or not i should separate them if this problem keeps occurring.

Also this might sound discusting :eek1: but smelt the regurge and it smelt like when they defecate. Should it smell like that if it was regurged?

Well it would smell awful if it was a regurge, (not that poo doesn't)

If you are not sure, I would just treat it as a regurge. Wait 10 days and feed a smaller prey item.

Thank you both for replying on this thread. And i will do just that (treat it as a regurge). I did not know though as to if it would smell that bad or not. That is something that i could not find as well as a 3 day regurge. Thanks once again.

I'm a believer in safe cohabitation. From my observations I pretty much reject the idea of corns being stressed by a partner (except when they are not used to company). I have a viv with 4 babies and 4 hides (two warm, two cool) and 80% of the time all four are in the same one.
However, in the even of a regurge you need to separate them in order to find out who it was if it happens again. Also if one is sick, getting it away from the healthy one is a very wise idea. They problem with Co-habitation is that now you have treat both snakes like it could have been them that regurged. It's important not to feed again for 10 days. It takes a long time for the snake to replenish the lost digestive juices and if you feed again before it's belly is ready the chance of a second regurge is very great and it will take even longer to replenish the digestive juices only now the snake hasn't had a properly digested meal in while and will suffer greater physical stress as it uses up energy reserves to produce the digestive juice. So please, until about 3 or 4 good feedings keep them separated and don't feed them for 10 days from the time of the regurge.

Update

Well it is now Feb 5 of 07 and minion is still regurging. I have seperated snakes back in late december but no effect. have hides on both side of tanks and is a larger tank. temps are 82-86 high side and 70-75 on cool side. will be taking minion to vet today to get checked. if you are interested will post again about what vet says. stay tuned.

did you try grape fruit seed extract and fast for 10 days after each regurge?
I hope all turns out well for you after the vet visit

RIP Minion

well after seeing the vet she said that the snake might be having issues with digesting the head. she said to try with a pinky with no head legs or tail. minion did not want anything to do with it at all. normally minion would eat right away after the 10 day waiting period.

no i didn't try the grape fruit seed extract but i did stop putting the bone aid powder and the water drop vitamins in the water. i did do the brain and slitting the pinky but did not want anything to do with them ever. also tried the ivory soap wash didn't work.

anyway i went home for lunch today and minion was trying to bury himself (by the looks of it) and i went back in after 45 minutes and minion was still in the same position. took minion out and wasn't moving. touched his head and didn't move. no response at all.........

Sorry for your loss, sometimes there is nothing you can do. Maybe he had some sort of defect that made it difficult to digest. Hope your next corn goes a lot better. ;)
