Regurge protocol

Just checking but how long ago was this, have you followed regurge protocol or do you need advice with that?

Tracee posted the above in another thread. Can Tracee or someone else please expand on what the protocol is, as we had an incident last night.

Our new corn finished shedding Sunday night into Monday. Wednesday was his normally scheduled day to feed. We haven't been able to feed him in the 13 days that we have had him. We had two attempts before yesterday but he was shedding and didn't eat.

Last night we tried again for the third time and I think I screwed up.

We took him out of his cage and put him in a deli container. We got the pinky ready to go and took the lid off and added it to the container with him. We left him for thirty minutes and he didn't touch it (at some point it broke open in the process). I was gonna reheat the pinky but decided to use a new one. I got that one ready and held it with tweezers and when we took the lid off he took it very readily. We left him in my dark kitchen and didn't move him. We peeked at him and he had the whole thing in his mouth (we couldn't see any of it). However, we forgot to take the other one out first.... It seemed like he then turned and when his nose almost bumped the other one he instantly spit it out. I then took both out, showed him a new pinky and he had no interest so immediately I took it out and we put him back in his viv for the night.

I don't know if it was because of the other pinky, or if the one we were using wasn't hot enough, or something else. I am assuming that this is considered a regurge and would like some advice.

Thanks

Jared

mine some times do this. my male the most common one sometimes gets to the back legs then regurgitates it. but most of the time it was because it is too big just try again in a couple more days. mine didn't eat once for I think about 2 months they were perfectly fine but scoffed it down when i fed them on the next day they should have been fed I don't think there is a problem but some one on here will no more about it as I said mine seemed to be fine and there still here now.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'd wait a day, then feed him again. He's obviously going to be a good feeder- so you are probably safe to just feed him on the kitchen counter. It's easier to put the pink in the container, then the snake. That way, you only have to worry about getting the snake in once, and if you're lucky, he'll spot the pink and attack before you even get the lid closed. Be very careful of his tiny tail!! They like to hang on to the edge of the container. If you want, you could put a dish towel over him the first time, but generally, unless I've _had_ a problem, a snake that doesn't eat within minutes of being put in the feeding container, it's okay to just set him on the counter, doesn't have to be pitch dark- just no lights glaring on him, and walk away for 15 minutes or so. If he hasn't fed by then, THEN reheat and cover and leave for an hour.

A regurge is when a snake gets the prey item all the way to the stomach or mostly there and then vomits it back up either straight away or some time later (sometimes it can be a few days later) this can deplete the good gut flora and then you should follow the regurge protocol. But it sounds like your guy just spit it out before swallowing it fully because he got spooked by the other pink in the container, so what Nanci suggested is what I would do :)
