Rosy Boa Substrate Question

Im just old
Anyone have a Rosy Boa and what substrate do you use?

I have no real reason for the change but I changed his substrate from Reptiblend which was the big red chunks of bark to Aspen and he immediately burrowed completely under it on the warm side of his tank. Im not digging that at all. Is this normal?

What substrate do you use?

Prior to changing it she was out all the time.
 
Look at it this way. The aspen is comfortable for her to burrow under, and the bark chunks weren't. Do you want her to be happy and comfortable? Also- maybe it is a novelty for her- like when a snake gets a big water bowl that it can get into, when it hasn't had one ever before.

I use aspen for Noah but she is more likely to be squashed under her hollow tree or in a wine cube than burrowed.
 
OMG Nanci, of course I want her to be happy ! But its no fun for me....LOL

I think I am more concerned with what is "the right" substrate, if there is such a thing.
 
I use Aspen with all three of mine and none of them spend great amounts of time buried under it, although they do on occasion. They all have a hide in their cage that they spend the most time in. But compared to most of the other snakes, they are usually fairly visible in their tanks.
 
My rosy is on aspen, she seems to like it. She does burrow and tunnel sometimes, but just as often she's chilling out in the open. Much more than my corn snakes, actually.
