Old enough to know better
Less than two weeks ago we had to put Lily, our 14 year old Ragdoll kitty to sleep from renal failure. In our worries about her over the last month, we didn't pay too much attention to the coughing and furball-hacking of our 8 year old Cali. It turned out to be masses in her lungs, and we had her put to sleep yesterday. My heart is broken, and the grieving of her little best friend Minnie LaRue is shattering. She keeps looking everywhere for Cali, but can't find her. It is the price we have to pay for loving these creatures with all our hearts.

Aw man, that's horrible. I'm so sorry. I had to put my nearly 15 year-old golden retriever down several months ago, so I know how you feel.

God, I'm sorry. I had to put my cat O'Reily to sleep a few years ago because of renal failure. He was seven years old, and I was shocked and devastated. I still miss him. I'm so very sorry to hear about your cats.

I am so sorry! Losing one right after the other is just terrible. Unfortunately, it never gets easier. But their love and companionship are so wonderful that we will keep right on loving and losing them for the rest of our lives.

Thanks all. Your words mean a lot to me, and even though you don't know me or my kitties and corns we all share that common bond of loving our pets for better or for worse. It feels so empty in my house now, but then Scarlett shed tonight (almost perfect, needed a little help with her tail) so it was something to smile and be excited about.
