Last night while on MSM a troll appeared. He was just being abusive and swearing at people for no reason. As there are no mods on MSM to stop this I said to Joel "come on lets go"
Thats when I saw it...
Joel said "I'll sort, him watch this" Then he started to go to work..Within a couple of minutes he had posted this guys address the car he drove its number plate why his kids couldn't live with him his GF name loads of real private stuff.... Well this guy was shocked he apologized and logged off..
I was shocked and asked Joel how he done it, I've tried it out and the amount of info that we all leave on the net is unreal, frightening really.
I didn't know that with the right way of researching we are all quite vulnerable...
I would now like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone I may of offended....LOL
Did you guys know this was possible? If so pm me with the number plate off my estate car to prove it....Its up there in a couple of places.

This does not worry me at all, Im very careful with the information I put online and sometimes I even change my name.. However if anyone did try anything, there's my mum, her boyfriend, the dogs, and me to get past.. ;)
 
There's also a technique called "social engineering" which basically uses manipulation to get information. This is the reason why I don't store my credit card numbers in paypal or any other online store I buy from.

If you're interested, there's a really good book by a guy named "Mitnick"
 
Although I am not much of a computer person myself, I have seen the members on the BOI (Fauna) come up with some impressive info on "bad guys" who thought they could remain anonymous. It is comforting to know that scammers and trolls can be held accountable, but not so comforting to know how little privacy we all have these days.

I always use my own name whenever I post in any forum anywhere. That helps me to remember that whatever I post online is there to represent me to anyone and everyone (good people, bad people, government, bill collectors, and anyone else!) for all time.

Something to think about!
 
Wow, I know a few months ago there was the scare here that all people had to do was type in your e-mail and they could get your address and phone number. I tried it and it worked. There was also a way to go in and block which I did. Today after reading your post Mike I tried again nothing showed up for hubby, but for me it did through "Ratsnake Foundation Forum" so I went in there and erased all info. Even if it was pretty much the same as the stuff here in profile, I guess I just like the idea of it being out there like that. susang
 
I come up if you google my first and last name because the school system I work for posts my email address for all to see. :shrugs: What can you do?

Also, because I just bought my house, I believe my address would come up too, since it was listed in the paper a while back. I am not sure if it's the exact address of just the street.

:uhoh: I dont like the sound of that. Haha, it is interesting though, no doubt. I have a friend that can be found on google ... Adam Gibbins ... but thats only because hes the son of the drummer from badfinger, Mike Gibbins. That, and hes in a band :dancer:.

At least its not like ... hardcore personal information ... I suppose revealing oviedo is a bit personal but as long as no one can find the address; i'm fine :spinner:.

It doesn't bother me that much. The one thing that does get me a little is my picture is out there for anyone with knowledge of my full name or job history to find. I hated that picture when it was taken, I pleaded not to have it put up but my boss insisted. Gross. :/
 
Heh i remember a few months back being linked to a thread from a car forum i frequent, Some girl had tried to scam one of the members on eBay... the forum then took it upon themselves to wage a little 'war' on her.

They found out her full name, address, photos of her house, an advertisement looking for a housemate for her, Her religion (Scientology.), her myspace page, her company website (She was a freelance artist.) and basically every single thing they could.
