Scenting with raw chicken?

I dug up some info on a diff thread that makes it look like scenting with raw chicken would be ok unless scenting is completely different than just feeding raw chicken parts to the snakes
But one of our problems was getting rodents while on the road. Sometimes there was a herp society or pet shop to help supply them, sometimes not. So we went to the grocery store and bought chicken necks, gizzards, and hearts (never tried turkey, pork, or livers). We fed those items, raw, to various ratsnakes, rattlesnakes, old world vipers, cobras, kingsnakes, and pretty much everything in the exhibit. I can't specifically remember anything refusing them when we had nothing else to offer. We were on the road for about 4 or 5 years and used chicken parts off and on for much of that time. I never noticed any problems that I feel were caused by that diet. However, we only fed the chicken parts when we couldn't get any rodents, so I would guess it might have been about 1/3 - 1/2 of the total feedings. I intuitively felt (there was not a wealth of easily accessed information then as there is now!) that this diet would not be the same as complete animals, so limited it to when we could not find whole rodents.
this was a quote from Kathy Love in a thread about Vinman's feeding alternatives

also the salmonella thing, "As high as 90% of reptiles are natural carriers of Salmonella bacteria, harboring strains specific to reptiles without any symptoms of disease in the reptile."
so i do not think that the reptile would be as affected by the salmonella bacteria as much as the person that handles the snake (or raw chicken) afterwards - and this shouldnt be a concern if you wash your hands properly afterwards anyways

where i work we are constantly testing for salmonella, but i am by no means an expert
(i got that quote above from http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/reptiles/a/reptsalmonella.htm)

Hey, Tula, you're a mind reader in addition to your talents as "a fantastic heaterer uperer!" I have a hatchling who still doesn't want to eat for me and I'm grilling chicken tonight. I was wondering if I could use raw chicken it to try scenting in hopes that he'd be interested. (Broth, brains, and tuna scents haven't brought results.)

So I'll give this a shot. Now, how do I tell my daughter that we're having chicken bubba for dinner? :D
