Scottish scenery...

Tula_Montage

It's Jager time!
I took a drive back up north (The Highlands) with my brother today... I lived there for 7 years. I haven't been back up that way since I left 3 years ago to start my life again in the City (where I was born).

It was a surreal experience, and I realised how much I missed it. It was like going into a completely different realm... the crazy weather changes made it even more surreal... One minute it was sunny, the next misty, then snowy, then we got stuck in a blizzard oh and then it all cleared up and was beautiful and sunny again. :uhoh: Then it rained...

This is the first time I have taken my camera outside to photograph scenery... I took about 500 shots and only got 20 or so I liked. I'll start off with my photographs of Loch Lomond and the surrounding area.

I didn't have a triopod, and the day was sooo overcast so I had real difficulty with the shutter speed throught the whole shoot.

The Falls of Falloch. It was raining in these pictures... then it started snowing so they are a bit crappy.

Most people's great pictures are worst than your crappy ones :) I do decent outdoor shots.. good horsey shots... but I still long to take snake pictures like you do... sigh...

This first one would be on my wall, if I had a decent photo printer :)

Everytime you post these types of pics Elle I just desperately want to go back to Scotland. Still my favorite vacation of all time.
Actually went by Loch Lomond when I was there...
Do you have any shots of Eileen Donan?
I envy your waterfall shots...that is one thing I have not mastered yet - flowing water pics. I can never seem to balance the aperture with the slow shutter speed quite right.

Thanks Katie... I had real difficulty with these shots cause I was using a really low shutter speed and had no tripod! So they were blurry and wonky and overexposed. And it's the first time I have tried to shoot flowing water...

I didn't shoot anything at Eileen Donan, but heres some shots of Glencoe. Most of these were overexposed and oversaturated. I set the shutter speed far too low on most of them :(

The colors are so rich - Scotland is such a beautifully breathtaking country. You are so lucky to live there and be able to see that all the time. I swear, sooner or later I am going to have to just hop a plane and come visit you!

Do you use Photoshop on these at all? Do you shoot RAW or JPEG?

Edit to add - hope you don't mind, I would like to use that last shot on my desktop?

I agree with the need for a visit. I think I need to put getting my passport on my to-do list this year.

I love the pictures of Glencoe. Wrote a short story about the place once. It's on my list of must visit places.

Some shots of Glen Etive

Yeah I suppose it is quite spectactular. When I lived in the Highlands I just didn't appreciate it though.

Unfortunatley I shoot JPEG... My computer is too crappy to deal with RAW files lol. Although I hate how crappy the quality is when I tidy them up in photoshop.

Use anything you like as your wallpaper :)

Dang, I was hoping for Deerhound pictures....

Love that shot of the doe.... very awesome. You were able to get that close with the macro? I really need to get myself another camera... or take a class on how to use the one I have :)

The 2nd black and white with the lone tree... freaking gorgeous!!! I am so glad you are sharing these with us.

Well I was about 20ft away from her :)

What camera is it you have?

Thanks Katie... I really love B+W photography so those shots were good candidates to turn greyscale.

I shoot JPEG too - no worries!
I am really enjoying seeing all of these - giving me motivation to go out this weekend and shoot although my scenery won't be nearly as spectacular!

Well I really enjoyed being out and shooting. I just couldn't get into it at first as the light was so bad, so my first 100 shots were awful. But yeah, Im pleased with the 20 or so I got... thats what its all about eh!

Be sure to post pictures Katie! Im sure Floriduh is just as beautiful.
