Shedding...

Whiskey hasnt shed in like 3 mnths.. is that because of the winter. he hasnt even goin into blue. Is it normal?

He will be a year round mid to end may... I was feeding every 2 weeks cuz he got waaaay to chunky.. but during the winter i still offered every 2 weeks and he took it.. was that wrong?

No I don't think that was wrong...what are you feeding and have you weighed him? If so, you could check out The Munson Plan on this site...just do a search. It gives a pretty good guideline for size of prey and how often to feed (although not all corns will like that plan 100%, you just have to fiddle with it)...also knowing his weight will help you see if he is growing. If there is no growth then I imagine there would less shedding to be done.

I dont have a digital scale to weigh him on.. I am still feeding him fuzzies.. hes just starting to get to where the fuzzy isnt as noticeably in his belly so im goin to move to 2 fuzzies per feeding for a couple weeks then go upto prey size.. thats what i did with the pinkies to move him to fuzzies.. he does look like he is growing def wider lol and does look a lil longer.. other than the shed he seems very very healthy..

Having a scale and keeping track of his weight on a calendar would probably be a good habit to get into. It might seem a little extreme, but there may be one day you're glad you did it. All I have is your average kitchen scale you can get at Walmart. I just put my corn in the container (Which I already know is 55g) and subtract the weight of the container from the number. Pretty simple :).

I don't think it's a good idea to feed any sub-adult snake at a two-week interval. He can't get "chunky," he is growing. I feed every five days until the snake is over 200 grams/on adults. A week would be the very least I'd go with a juvenile. So that's why he isn't shedding- he isn't growing. A typical baby snake (which a yearling is) would be shedding every month to month and a half.

thanks nanci.. The rteason i had cut him back is because i had posted pics of him awhile back and people where telling me that he was too fat an it was unhealthy i should cut him back. thats why i did.. hes my first so im trying to do right by him ya know

A baby snake that isn't even a year old can't be fat! How much/often were you feeding him before? And nice, well-fed babies have a reserve of strength and weight in case anything happens, anyway.

Another thought. I have one snake that sheds directly in his water dish. Only the bit of tail on the outside of the dish tells me he shed because the rest disolved. I usually let him slither through a damp towel while holding him after I find that to be sure it all came off. So far no problems and fingers stay crossed that nothing does happen.
