Silly Pet Store Staff Comment(s)

After his last shed, my emoryi male decided that f/t didn't interest him anymore. I won't abide a fasting snake, so I went to the pet store today to get him his second live hopper since the shed. There was a new girl in the back room, and I told her what I needed, and specified that I wanted to pick out the mouse myself. So I went back to the rodent room, and she started pulling out tubs that I knew weren't the normal feeder tubs. "Are these OK?", she asked, pointing to full-sized adults. I told her that they were too big and that I needed a hopper. She replied, with a bit of hostility, "Well, these WERE hoppers." I don't think she caught on to my mild sarcasm when I said, "No argument there, but I need one that is CURRENTLY a hopper." :grin01:

Feel free to add your own silly pet store staff comments. :)

LOL!

You're lucky Roy, most places around here won't let you in the back room to pick out your own. Instead they bring really crappy ones out to you in a paper sack. ;)

LOL, that's exactly how it works at my pet store. I've sent them back for something different before. I feel like I have to be as specific as possible. "I need the smallest live pinky you can get, please." Most of them think "all the pinkies/fuzzies/etc are the same size". I've asked for small fuzzies before and gotten what were clearly good-sized hoppers.
Although, sometimes I give them the benefit of the doubt when I ask for a small pinky and it's just too big, They don't know what size of snake I'm trying to feed it to. :)

Animal Mania in Ft lauderdale is all off with their mice and rat sizes. Basically you can sorta choose the ones you want since they have an amount out in tubs in the sture, but really they arent all that great and the pinkies tend to stay in a small tub for a couple of days before they are either taken or dead. I dont go there for food though since my corn is on FT and as far as I know they only have live there..

On the other hand, a funny occurence just about an hour ago when I was over at PetsMart for some dog food and crickets, some employee was there that I'd never seen (I know a lot of them since I got every week or so) and well he had a red tail boa around his neck and I go 'nice redtail' and he looked at me strange. I then said 'what, you guys sell snakes now' and he said 'no' and so I asked him for some crickets... 5 dozen to be specific (i need to starta breeding colony for em, but that might be more trouble than I need) and so he was like 'damn, I neeeed to count crickets?' and got a regular guy over that I know and then I realized that he doesnt even own the snake, it was the regular guy's and he was apparently also a hobbyist and was letting this guy check it out to maybe purchase it. Really I didnt feel like expressing the fact that I know more than a common name and some basic facts about the snakes and all, so I just watched as he looked baffled the whole time. And I held it as I waited for the crickets, but really, it was funny to just look at him in his confusion thinking of all the mistakes he'll make. One thing he didnt know about was how big theyll get and so he knew not what size of tank or cage he would need and was surprised when the regular guy told him he'd quickly need to get a 20L but shouldnt be surprised if he needs to get a bigger one soon after that. HAHA, stupid petshop people :)..... too bad im not 18 or I'd be working there :D

Funny, is it just me, or does your information over there to the left say that your age is 18?! :shrugs: That's kinda odd . . .

wow she sounds dumb.. i dont have any dumb comments to share.. but my petshop wont let me buy rats, they are "pets only".

For Christmas I got a gift certificate to Petco. I decided to spiffy up one of my vivs. I also bought some general supplies for my rodents. Including bedding and treats. I bought a few cat toys too. So I get to the register, and the cashier asks me what I have. 2 snakes, 3 rats, 3 mice, a cat and a dog. And she said, "well, who eats who?" She was joking, but I thought it was kind of dumb too. The place where I got my rats from insisted that I needed "dry-tail" and practically made me buy it. I returned it a week later.

The GENERAL MANAGER of the Petco where I worked once commented that topping off the snake's water bowls was unnecessary, since "snakes don't drink, anyhow". She bases this on the fact that she herself never saw a snake drink water.

And two months before I left, she got a raise.

Ok, something different..........I work at a pet shop, so instead of dissing myself, I am going to dis some customers!
I have this customer who always comes in and buys a hopper. I never remember her though until after she purchases it. After I get the mouse of whatever sort I ALWAYS ask the customer to look at it to make sure the size is ok and the color is ok (in case of a picky eater). So, I take the box open over to her and ask her to look at it and she shreiks very loudly and tells me that she can't look at it. She said she is scared of the mouse!! So, obvious question I ask her how she feeds her snake. She tells me she throws the hopper in the tank with her eyes closed and then runs out of the room. I guess whatever works for her, though it doesn't sound like she should even have the snake. I have tons more, but they aren't about snakes.

Heh, I feel her pain. One of the reasons I decided against getting geckos is because I can't handle having crickets and roaches in the house - they freak me out too much.
Good thing I'm indifferent towards mice :grin01:

IT does say I'm 18, but thats just but I'm only a year off of that..

Are you saying that you entered an incorrect date/year for your birth date when you registered? Why? :shrugs:
