silly question #3,000,000

What does this mean :
1.1.0 Ghost Corn
1.1.0 Amelanistic Corn
1.1.0 Anerythristic Corn
I thought 1.1 amel. meant one male and one female, or 0.1 amel. meant one female. What is the third digit? help :bang: susan

Maybe this should be "the same question asked for the 3,000,000th time!" :sidestep:

I dunno, sounds like the third digit kinda threw her off. She was on the right track before. In fairness, I think you can only count this as number 2,999,999.5. :grin01:

I remember asking about a month or so ago. That's gotta' kick it up to nearly 2,999,999.75. :p

Actually I can count higher than 3,000,000 and sorry for the question, maybe it should have been the how many millions about "poop". I saw previous question about these numbers which was graciously answered but it only mentioned two numbers not three, the best I can remember. But again sorry for the question. susan :puke01:

I think you misunderstood my post. :( I was actually defending you. But I don't think anyone else had a real problem with you posting this either. It's not stickied, and it makes an awkward search topic. Hang around, and you'll see the question again, in one form or another, many, many, many times. :)

Ditto what Roy Munson said, Susan. I was teasing (Dean more than you) with the .75 thing. My apologies if it sounded like making fun. I think this particular question was maybe the second or third one I came out of "lurk" to ask when I found the boards.

Misty has a point, though. Perhaps it should be 'sticky-ed' somewhere ... Anyone with more time on the boards know who/how to make it happen?

With all due credit to Joe, I think the FAQ's are hard to find and under-utilized. If you visit any other forum, stickies are a heck of a lot more noticeable than they are here.

I wouldn't see any problem with a magenta background with bold yellow saying: STICKY - Husbandry FAQ. Just something to catch people's attention more or less.

I think there needs to be one main FAQ section up at the top with the New Member Introductions (people don't have a problem seeing THAT forum). A big section with ALL of the FAQs contained as stickies there, things that newbies most commonly ask. Half the time people can't manage to post in the correct section anyway, so what makes you think they're going to intuitively go to correct forum for the appropriate FAQ? And maybe a lttiel Rules sticky on how we like to see stuff conducted around here, like pointing out the Search button and such. =P

I dunno...just idle ramblings. I think this site has it set up really well. Everything is easy to find, and stuff newbies should know is right up there at the top where ya can't miss it. http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/index.php

Hmmm....I'll add to the ramblings... Maybe a FAQ forum with different Stickys dicussing different questions??

Well I think stickies broken down in subjects would be good. Like..

Bedding - A FAQ and Poll on which type of bedding is best for your corns.
Housing
Feeding
Cleaning

Etc...with a brief desc of what's outlined in each, so its dead easy for people to find what they're looking for without asking for the 3,000,000th time. ;)

I don't blame new members in anyway, I just think this site is set up counter-intuitively at times. What should be easy to find (and would be to those who've been here long enough and know where to look) is hard to find or requires too many mouse clickings to find.

So would that be 2,999,999 males; 5 females and an unsexed :grin01: ........:shrugs:

Well I am no longer bent, but I did try the search, and the earlier question on 1.1 only included 1.1., I wanted to know what 1.1.1.as opposed to 1.1???? When you type 1.1 in search or for that fact 1.1.1 you get nothing, but than where to post thread involved some thought because nothing said 1.1.1, but early post gave me some clue, although it has to do with sex so could have been in breeding???my rambling :grin01:
Seriously this sight is easy, but I do notice there seems to be lots of discussion or questions on bedding, poop (in water, out of water, on person), so thought y question was OK. Also search seems a little hard as you have to exactly what you looking for. I do like stickies and FAQ, but admit I didn't look there. Anyway thanks for all the help susan

I don't think anyone was getting down on you, per se. We're just idly frustrated that the same questions seem to be like fashions, they keep cycling through periodically.

I can imagine it would be hard to try to figure exactly what to search for, as I've never searched for it. I guess maybe "sex ratio"?

Don't feel too bad, I still ask dumb questions now and then. Feel free to add in how or what you would like to see things change so it could be streamlined to help newer folks. Some of us have been here so long we're just used to where things are, and don't think about other people's perspectives.

might I just suggest a single beginning thread, the way it is now: Intro Hi! I'm susan I have 3 corn snakes. husbandry What size tank do I use for my three snakes do I need one or three containers? What are their morphs? Health how often do I feed them, what kind of bedding.... Picture Gallery Here are the pictures... While this is exagerated and maybe that is what intro is but, I think in trying to be correct people split it up all over. There was the poor guy awhile back who posted same question on differant threads asking same basic question.
Instead Hi! I'm Susan I have three corn snakes 1.0 amel 4 yrs, 1.0 creamsicle 05', 0.1 Normal 06'. They eat dadada. I use aspen as bedding dadada. Here are my pics. OR Here are pics can you tell me what these morphs are. thanks susan

Just a suggestion; everyone starts off as a newbie, and if they ask a question that bores or irritates an established member, the replies can be totally rude, sometimes starting arguments that would put off someone who is genuinely worried about their new pet. Could those members just ignore the newbie posts unless they've got something helpful to say?

Who was rude in this post? I didn't see anyone being rude, I think people just have a knack for misreading the meaning behind the words we type here.

If most of the more "established" members ignored the myriad of newbie posts, who would answer them with the most pertinent and helpful information at times?

I'm not trying to knock new folks, as we all have to start somewhere, but quite a few end up here in an emergency situation when they didn't know how to take care of a snake. I sure don't want some other newbie trying to help me when they just killed their own snake last month.

But to be honest, I ignore 90% of the repetitive type posts, which is sad to admit and I hate admitting it. I want to help people, I really do. But there's only so much some folks can take, especially this time of year. You're lucky to see me reply to many posts above the Breeding Section.

It mostly just depends on how long its going to take me to reply to make it clear and concise. And also dependant on how I 'read' the original poster into whether they could understand what I'm describing or if I'd be better off to go into a song and dance about "C is for Cookie".

At least our forum isn't like some others I've been to where moderators will blatantly delete your post if you clearly haven't read their 3 page rules thread and 'accidently' ask a question that's been asked a zillion times. But I just wish sometimes people would try to do some work themselves and research, research, research (like I did, and am doing for a new hobby I would like to get into).

I didn't mean to make this appear to be a whole "down with newbies" thread, that was not my intention at all. I was just merely trying to stimulate some discussion on how we could make it better for everyone. How new people could get the information they need, without it being the same questions over and over again. So if that can be misconstrued as rude, tough gozungas.

I am merely interjecting that I would just like to see an area of the forum, near the top (as some folks can't seem to find their way down the forum for some reason) that has all of the answers to the most basic questions that are asked a zillion times right there in front of them. That way you'd have to trip over them to not see them.

THAT was the thoughts behind my posts...

true enough, no-one specifically rude here, and maybe I was just a bit grumpy this morning, apologies to you

Susan,
I don't think anyone here was bothered by you or your question. It is a subject that is almost impossible to search on. You are right, there are also many other questions that get asked over and over. Your thread just happened to be the one that sparked a conversation on trying to find a better way to address these very common questions. Right now there are quite a number of different threads on the same subject, some have more info than others, it would be nice to get them all lumped together.
Still yet, with a couple of other posts, people were just joking around not intending to offend you.
This forum is here to ask questions and learn, we are just having our turn. We are asking the question, "Is there a better way to do this?".
Sorry if I worded anything in a way that was offensive.
