Size of Breeding Area?

Hi all,

I was wondering whether or not the size of the enclosure has any affect on whether or not two corns will mate? For example, will putting two full grown adult corns into an enclosure that is too small discourage them from mating?

I'm just curious as I was/am planning to introduce the male and female in a 20-gallon tank, but if this is too small I will re-plan my plan!

Thanks a bunch!

That size should be fine. I know breeders (myself included) that just put the male in the female's cage, which for me is about 23"x16"x6" and it was plenty of room for mine to breed, but all of my snakes are under 4 feet too. If you have bigger snakes they may appreciate more space.

I just re-read your question. You aren't planning on housing them together in a 20 gallon are you? You're just putting them in to mate, right? For housing it would be too small, but just for mating it would be fine.

Also, just so you know, you may be able to get them to breed for you at this late date (I don't know, never tried to mate my snakes out of season), but you'll have much more luck if you wait until next spring.

Amanda,

No, this would only be for breeding time and I am definitely not housing any of my snakes together!

That being said, I was just wondering about the size for future breeding reference, although I may try two of my adults, just as an experiment. But may wait as well, we'll see.

Thanks a bunch!
