Sky 4-5-07 to 1-4-08

ReptileMama4

Snakey Mama
:cry:I got a call today at about 4:00 PM from my mom saying that "Sky's dead." Sky is my little kitty cat who was born on my 30th birthday last year. He was one of three kittens born, and I got to watch 2 of these 3 being born. It was the first birth I actually witnessed live, real time, and it happened on my 30th birthday, right after I got home. The mama, Digit, knew what she was doing.

:uhoh:Anyway, a few days ago my mom smelled a burning smell on his fur, but the fur wasn't singed. Sky also had difficulty breathing. Today, a few days later, Sky was still struggling for each breath, so my mom took him to the hospital. The doctor said that Sky only had a 10% chance of making it, but a series of expensive medical tests would be needed to find out what was wrong. Well, we're not the richest people in the world, so my mom really had no choice but to go with the other alternative, which was to have him put to sleep.

:cry:So the doctor gave him a sedative to relax him for the big shot, which he didn't need, cuz he fell "asleep" with the sedative.

:cry:So my mom and I were crying on the phone together. I told her that she did the right thing.

:angry01:The part that really ticks us off, though, is we know who's been hurting our cats. We don't know exactly what happened this time, but in the past, our cats have been shot. One cat was even run over and killed (we think it was on purpose, cuz the cat was way too street smart).

:blowhead: <---This is what I'd like to do to the jerks who've been hurting our cats.

I am so sorry for your loss :awcrap:

It is beyond me how someone can intentionally injure or kill a cat or dog. It is sad.

I am also very sorry to hear of your loss..I know the loss of a pet can be very upsetting and hard to overcome..I wish you all the luck in the future..and if you find out that someone is hurting your cats on purpose you should call aspca or the police right away..that is just cruel and wrong and I hope they get what they deserve...

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I agree. I can't imagine anyone wanting to purposely hurt or kill an animal.

I would call the cops or ASPCA, but we can't prove a thing. We don't have anything on camera, and we never saw the jerks in action. Even if we did, we'd be afraid, cuz they're very vendictive and could cause further harm to my parents' other cats.

But yeah, they will definitely get what they deserve, and I hope I can watch.

I am very sorry for your loss. I would deffinaltey look into getting an autopsy done and shoot for a real diagnosis. If it's not to late that is...

I'm sorry for your loss. It makes me sick to think of anyone deliberately harming cats (or any animal.) :angry01:

Thanks, everybody. Yeah, I'm recovering.

Unfortunately, it's too late for an autopsy, and that would be too expensive anyway. We figure, in due time, these fools will get caught and hopefully thrown away for a long time.

That's beyond belief, some people are so low as to hurt an animal deliberately. I can only hope they do get what they deserve, but sadly it's more likely they'll carry on with their nasty ways and live their lives causing more harm and distress.

Yeah, unfortunately it's been going on for too long. My parents' cats have been shot at several times, run over, poisoned, you name it. I hope I get to watch when these evil people get their just dues. :angry01:

I hope this evil behavior stops before other cats/animals get hurt. It just makes me wonder how many people they've hurt deliberately. I know for a matter of fact that some people have been hurt at their house, cuz my parents heard noises like people screaming. I guess the real question is how many people have these fools killed? These people need to be locked away in solitary confinement forever with no privileges.

Ok, I'm off on a rant, and it's almost 4:30 AM. I need to get my little self to bed. :boring:

thats really sad we had a 12 year old boy take a 6 month ld beagle pupp and slit his throat poor little pupp its just so sick that anyone could do such a thing

Thats terrible, I hate it when people do things like this to animals.

My parents have horses, Bought for me and my sister when we was young. When i was about 15 we started noticing speckles of blood on the hind quarters of one of them. Upon closer inspection there were pellets from an air rifle embedded into the horses body. Had to get a vet out to have them removed, Wasn't exactly cheap. Added onto this was the stress of not knowing whether the pellets were lead based or not.

Week later i caught the kids who were doing it, a year or so younger than me and their older brother. They ran off when they realised they'd been spotted. So i gave chase, followed them all the way back to their house. Went back to the stables, told my parents where they lived. My dad went to the house, spoke to the kids parents showed them the vets bills, The pellets that were removed and told them we knew it was their kids doing it. The parents refused to accept any responsibility, a few months later the same kids set fire to a caravan we had parked up in one of the fields (It was used as a secure place to store medication for one of the horses, and warm place to sit/make a brew/sandwich etc.) Yet again we knew it was them because we saw them running off. A week later my dad saw the eldest brother (Who was the ring leader and about 18 years old.) on his own in the woods on the outskirts of the stables, Gave him a good kicking. Never had any trouble with the horses since.

Now im not saying vigilante justice is the way forward, But with some people its the only way they learn. ;)

Ok not to sound like a nay sayer here on the cats.
But after having your animals shot at, or even attacked, shouldn't you keep them inside?
Sorry, my cats are in door cats, I do not want to deal with abusers and my animals.
But if you animals were being poisoned, you should've had the necropsy done just to see what happened. It may not have been a neighbor poisoning it but something deadly around the house that the animal got into. Which is another reason why my cats are indoor animals.

Got bad neighbors? That's what this interesting little site is for: Rotten Neighbor. Of course I would post anonymously, but this doesn't mean they can't figure out who you are if you get too descriptive about their actions and how it affects you. Then again, that's assuming they even know of this site :shrugs:

It's terrible that someone is abusing animals, but I see something else here. I have to wonder...if you know someone is hurting your cats, why do you continue to let them outside? In my mind, there is some responsibility on the owners' part to safeguard their animals, especially when you know they have been harmed or killed by an individual. I would never let my cats out again and that would protect them from these bullies. If you can't prove anything against these people then keep your cats inside and protect them.

It's really sad when kids do it, cuz they get calloused at such a young age, then they get bored with hurting animals, and so they start hurting/killing humans. It's just an ugly world we live in anymore. In fact, I was just visiting my parents, and my mom was telling me some of the stuff that goes on in schools. I'm just thankful that I didn't end up with kids. It's just too much for me to handle. I'll just stick with my animals. I know they won't sass me. Ok, looks like I'm off on another rant. :sidestep:

As far as keeping the cats inside, why should they get punished for the sins of others? Cats by nature prefer the outdoors, and should have their rights. They come in when they wanna by loved on, then at night, they're free to roam. How would we humans feel being inside all the time with no chance of ever going outdoors? We would go crazy. When I was married, my husband would've agreed with you. But because our cats were kept indoors all the time, they literally went crazy. If they weren't climbing the curtains or other stuff, they were doing other things they shouldn't have. One night I finally gave up and let one of our cats outside. Unfortunately, we haven't seen him since. I do take blame for this, because I let him out the front door instead of the back door. I was just so upset at the time, I didn't really care at the moment. The cat needed his freedom, and so he got it.

I have to disagree with you about "punishing" cats by keeping them indoors. We have 6 cats, all of them indoors. They are not destructive (except for the ocassional accident). They are healthy, they have enough stimulation to keep them from going crazy and they are safe. No one has harmed our cats, they have not been hit by a car, they have not been injured by other animals and they are in no way suffering. They aren't even interested in going outside. In the past we have had indoor/outdoor cats and they have all met with misfortune...either fights, cars or they have simply never returned home. I'll just take the abuse and state it the way I see it, if you KNOW someone is deliberately harming your cats, you have an obligation to those animals to protect them and if that means keeping them inside (where owners actually have to keep them entertained and, my gosh, clean the cat box - which is why most people actually let their cats outside) then you need to do what's in the best interest of your pet. Is it easier to let the cats out and cry when one gets hurt than to keep them safe and happy indoors? Get toys, a cat tree, play with them, do whatever it takes to keep your pets healthy and safe. As harsh as I'm about to come across, I'll take the flack for this comment...letting your cats out knowing that someone will target and hurt them is like handing that cat over to that person and saying here you go, do what you want. If that statement upsets anyone, and I'm sure it will, I stand by my stance that people need to protect their pets.

If you wouldn't let your snakes loose inside your house because you know they are safe and healthy in their vivs, then why is it different to keep cats inside a house or apartment? I'm not pointing a finger at anyone, I'm just putting that out there for perspective.

By nature, snakes live in the wild, but we create their environment in the viv. This is why when they first move into their viv, they get feisty and want to strike us. They're not used to being contained. Same thing with cats.

Cats are domesticated creatures, they are not wild animals. They may exhibit more of their wild nature than dogs, perhaps, but they have been bred in captivity for thousands of years and live peacefully indoors. It's we who have to learn to work with them so they are not lonely and miserable. I don't understand why you seem to think it's more important that your cats go outside and take the risk of being tortured and killed by kids than in making them happy and well adjusted indoor pets. I don't get it.:shrugs:

Any time I've had an indoor/outdoor cat, they were happy. Anytime I had an indoor cat, they were not. They were all given love and attention. If cats were created to be indoors only, why the claws?
